Nottingham Forest have received a positive update on the recovery of Taiwo Awoniyi after the Nigerian striker was woken from an induced coma following abdominal surgery.
Awoniyi collided with a post during Forest’s 2-2 draw with Leicester in the Premier League on Sunday and received treatment for several minutes before playing on.
He was subsequently rushed to hospital for “urgent surgery” on Monday, though, as the extent of his injuries became clear, before being put in a coma to help restrict his movement and regulate his heart rate.

BOSTON — In a film session between Games 4 and 5 of their Eastern Conference semifinal series, as the Celtics prepared for their first game against the New York Knicks without Jayson Tatum, veterans Jaylen Brown and Al Horford challenged the remaining members of the team to rally for their injured superstar.
“When those two guys are at the front of it,” said Celtics reserve Luke Kornet, “it’s easy to follow course.”
Likewise, Tatum texted his teammates and Celtics staff prior to Game 5.

Of course, Golden State dropped their last three games entering Wednesday’s game as they fell behind 3-1 in the series as they had struggled mightily with their star guard Stephen Curry sidelined due to a left hamstring strain.
After winning just one of their last six Premier League games, Nottingham Forest’s last hope to qualify for the UEFA Champions League is to win their last two games of the season, beginning with a trip to West Ham on Sunday (9:15 am ET), and pray.
