NFL winning teams do winning team things. And NFL losing team do losing team things. And we are seeing an example of that Tuesday morning as the San Francisco 49ers and New York Jets are doing their things.
These two teams will open the regular season against each other next Monday night in Santa Clara.
And in preparation for that matchup, the 49ers late Monday night got close to wrapping up a contract extension for left tackle Trent Williams. Negotiations, unproductive for weeks, are so close that Williams flew from his home in Houston to report to the team on Tuesday.

Let’s hand out some NFL superlatives before the start of the season.
The beginning of the NFL regular season is just around the corner, and that officially closes the offseason. While most high school graduates had their proms and festivities back before summer, we realized we never had a proper sendoff for the NFL class of 2023.
That said, going back a year is pointless. When it comes to football we’re always looking forward — so instead of having an end of year yearbook, we decided to drop it early. This is our NFL yearbooks superlatives for the 2024 season.

Pat McAfee isn’t letting the haters and critics keep him down.
McAfee and the rest of the College GameDay crew are rolling following week one being in the books, and through two weeks of the ESPN event, it’s been a content machine.
One of the big reasons why is because ESPN brought former Alabama coach Nick Saban into the fold. The man won seven national titles coaching football, and he’s every bit as talented on TV.
He’s also the perfect counterbalance to McAfee’s high energy and showmanship.

Times are tough for the Florida football program right now, and Billy Napier is obviously feeling the pressure of what’s transpiring in Gainesville.  You have to choose your words carefully in this day and age of college sports, and he learned that lesson the hard way on Monday. 
I’m sure you’ve all seen the video clip by now, but the Gators head coach had some very generic words for the fans that are riled up on social media following the loss to Miami this past weekend. We’ll get back to that part in a bit.

I would’ve loved to have watched USC vs LSU this weekend or the U.S. Tennis Open considering I had money on both. 
Unfortunately, thanks to DirecTV and ESPN’s ongoing fighting, myself and millions of other cable subscribers were left in the dark, literally, as the channel went black right before kickoff AND in the middle of an Open match.
Never have I felt the “You don’t know what you’ve got, until it’s gone” FOMO in a sports-related manner this bad. I ended up running to the bar to catch the end of the Open and stay for the football game.
