For fans of teams eliminated from the playoffs, the only thing left for which to root is the best possible selection in the 2025 NFL Draft. While fans generally want their teams to win, there comes that point where losing is the best-case scenario. That was certainly true of both the New York Giants and Las Vegas Raiders heading into Week 17.
The Giants, especially, since they controlled their own destiny with regard to the top overall selection in the NFL Draft. All the team had to do was lose its final two games, and they would finish 2-15, the worst record in the league.

Aaron Rodgers found himself on the other end of an unnecessary roughness penalty Sunday. And the official couldn’t help but laugh.
Down 12-0 to Buffalo in the third quarter, Rodgers threw an interception — his second of the day — to Bills cornerback Christian Benford. As Benford returned the ball, Rodgers was one of two New York Jets players who pushed him out of bounds.
Apparently, though, he made contact a little bit late. Referee Clete Blakeman flagged the QB for unnecessary roughness, and he chuckled while doing it.
Mike McCarthy’s Dallas Cowboys lost again Sunday, this time in a 41-7 thrashing at the hands of the Philadelphia Eagles that raised the volume on cries McCarthy be fired by Jerry Jones.
Except, Jerry Jones isn’t going to be firing Mike McCarthy.
The Cowboys owner and general manager may very well want to hire a different head coach in 2025, but there would be no firing in the traditional sense because McCarthy’s contract expires after the season. So the move by Jones would be to simply not renew McCarthy’s contract.

After a surprisingly explosive offensive performance against the Colts, New York doesn’t have the inside track for the first pick of the draft anymore.
The Philadelphia Eagles had to start backup quarterback Kenny Pickett on Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys due to the concussion suffered by starter Jalen Hurts last week against the Washington Commanders.
Pickett also suffered an injury in the game against the Commanders, but started the game despite hurting his ribs in Week 16.
However, the Cowboys defense laid a couple of big hits on Pickett, the second of which knocked Pickett out of the game.
