From a heartbreaking walk-off loss to a thrilling extra-inning redemption, Sequoyah baseball experienced both agony and triumph in a dramatic doubleheader Thursday.
The Eagles dropped their Class 3A Regional 10 tournament opener in Valliant in gut-wrenching fashion, falling 4-3 to Sequoyah Tahlequah after surrendering two runs in the bottom of the seventh — including the game-winner on a steal of home.
However, they bounced back in the consolation bracket, outlasting Roland 9-6 in 10 innings behind late-game heroics to keep their season alive.

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Michael Busch hit his first career grand slam and Pete Crow-Armstrong added two solo shots as the Chicago Cubs beat the Milwaukee Brewers 10-0 on Friday.
This marked the first matchup of the season between the NL Central-leading Cubs and the Brewers, who won this division each of the last two seasons.
Chicago took the lead for good by scoring two runs in the first inning off Tyler Alexander (1-3), who served as the Brewers’ opener before giving way to Quinn Priester. The Cubs scored seven runs against Priester in the second to break the game open.
ATLANTA (AP) — Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed only one hit through six scoreless innings, Mookie Betts hit a home run and the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Atlanta Braves 2-1 on Friday night for their sixth consecutive win.
Austin Riley doubled with two outs in the sixth inning for Atlanta’s first hit off Yamamoto (4-2). The right-hander lowered his ERA to 0.90, the best mark in the major leagues. He left the game with a 2-0 lead.
Matt Olson led off the seventh with a homer off Dodgers right-hander Kirby Yates.
Before the season, the battle for the Yankees‘ third base job included notable names like DJ LeMahieu and Oswaldo Cabrera, but prospect Jorbit Vivas was also in consideration.
And although he didn’t break camp with the team, he finally got to make his MLB debut a little over a month into the 2025 season. Despite it coming due to Jazz Chisholm Jr.‘s injury, manager Aaron Boone was confident the 24-year-old could handle big league pitching, and started him Friday night against the Tampa Bay Rays.
What’s wrong with Connor Hellebuyck?
That’s a question that the Winnipeg Jets, Hellebuyck and goalie coach Wade Flaherty will have to figure out — and soon.
Hellebuyck was pulled for the third time in three games in St. Louis as Jets coach Scott Arniel inserted backup Eric Comrie into the net in the third period after his No. 1 goalie gave up four goals in the second period.
