NEW YORK (AP) — Francisco Lindor knew. He didn’t have to watch.
He turned on an inside cutter from Ryan Fernandez leading off the ninth inning and sent the ball soaring into Citi Field’s second deck in right field, 401 feet away.
“I hit it with everything I had,” he said. “If that one didn’t go, I was going to run out of luck.”
Lindor’s home run, the 250th of his major league career, lifted the New York Mets over the St. Louis Cardinals 5-4 on Friday night and sent smoke rising from the Home Run Apple in center field.

LAS VEGAS — The Golden Knights are set to face the Minnesota Wild in the opening round of the Western Conference playoffs, continuing what’s been an awfully close series since Vegas entered the league in 2017.
In the 35 meetings, both in the regular season and the playoffs, Vegas has won 20 times, with a 20-14-1 mark to show for it.
This will mark the second playoff series after the teams met during the postseason of the abbreviated campaign in 2021.

Freddy Peralta (2-1) threw 93 pitches and allowed seven hits in five shutout innings for the Brewers.
Jackson Chourio had an RBI double before scoring on a single by Yelich to put the Brewers up 2-0 in the fourth off Athletics starter J.T. Ginn (1-1).

Though the Coachella Valley Firebirds had already secured a fourth-place finish in the American Hockey League’s Pacific Division earlier in the day, Fridays game was far from meaningless.
With the Calder Cup Playoffs starting next week, Friday’s game against the Abbotsford Canucks was a chance to continue building momentum for the postseason.
