Spring Garden High’s Ace Austin has been named Miss Basketball by the Alabama Sports Writers Association for the second straight year.
Austin, an Alabama signee, averaged 26.5 points, 8.2 rebounds, 6.5 assists and 4.2 steals a game while leading the Panthers to a Class 1A state championship for the third straight year.
The award has been presented by the ASWA since 1988, and Austin is the first girl to win it twice. The ASWA announced Mr. and Miss Basketball, the super all-state teams and the players of the year for each classification at a lunch banquet in Montgomery on Thursday.

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — Cornerback Tre’Davious White is rejoining the Buffalo Bills after agreeing to a one-year contract worth up to $6.8 million, the player’s agent told The Associated Press on Thursday.
Agent Kevin Conner confirmed the agreement, which was first reported by ESPN.
The 30-year-old White returns to Buffalo a year after being part of the team’s salary cap-related purge of high-priced veterans in March 2024. He went on to sign with the Los Angeles Rams, where he had four starts, before being traded in November to the Baltimore Ravens, where he appeared in seven games.

I’m not crying, you’re crying! Look, I try to stay as objective as I can as a writer and reporter, but it’s just not possible when it comes to the New York Rangers. I’ve been a fan my entire life, despite growing up less than 100 miles from Pittsburgh, and Madison Square Garden (for a Rangers game, I hate the Knicks) is my happy place. 
And along those lines, Sam Rosen has called Rangers games since before I was born, so I only know Rosen on the mic for the Broadway Blueshirts. Rosen decided to call it a career after this season, his 40th with the team.

Last year, Kyle Larson’s attempt at pulling double-duty and racing in both the Indianapolis 500 and the Coca-Cola 600 on the same day was ruined by rain, so hopefully, all goes according to plan.
But, if it doesn’t and Larson has to dropout of the Indy 500 due to his NASCAR obligations, IndyCar has unveiled some new rules about potential replacement drivers.

Apr. 17—WELLS — In its first game after a breakout season, the Freeport softball team showed it still has a knack for winning.
The Falcons used a four-run sixth inning to complete the comeback from a four-run deficit en route to defeating fellow Class B South contender Wells, 7-5, in both teams’ opener.
“What I think is amazing about this team is the energy,” said senior Izzy George, who keyed the winning rally with a double and also picked up the win in relief. “We could be down 5-1, up 10-0, and the energy will always be consistent.

Apr. 17—JD Davison of the Maine Celtics, already named league MVP earlier this month, on Thursday was named to the All-NBA G League first team, joining Tim Frazier in 2014-15 as the only players in franchise history named to the first team.
Davison was also named to the All-G League third team last season. This season, he averaged 25.6 points, 5.1 rebounds, 7.7 assists, and 1.4 steals per game. He helped Maine to a 21-13 record and a spot in the Eastern Conference finals for a second consecutive season.
