Voting is now open online for The Shreveport Times High School Athlete of the Week, sponsored by Raising Cane’s, the Shreveport-Bossier Sports and Cosse and Silmon Orthodontics, which includes student-athletes in Louisiana high school sports other than football from 15 northwest Louisiana schools.
Fans of those students, their schools or their particular sport can vote at shreveporttimes.com under “sports” for their favorite. Voting will continue through Thursday night with the winner announced Saturday.

While Sunday in the sports world was mostly about March Madness, NHL stars took a secondary stage, scoring some pretty slick goals.
Pittsburgh forward Bryan Rust is a 32-year-old veteran who’s been around the block a few times. But don’t let his age fool you; this guy can still dangle and dazzle like one of the best.
Rust got the puck right above the blue paint in the first period against the Florida Panthers. While most guys would panic and rush the shot, Rust was as cool as a cucumber.

Florida finishes the second weekend of SEC play without a win on Sunday, as the Georgia Bulldogs completed a three-game sweep of the Gators, 15-5, in seven innings.
Georgia scored in every inning but the third, with a six-run sixth being the one that put the game out of hand. Starter Jake Clemente only lasted two innings, being pulled with no outs in the third after a four-pitch walk to lead off the frame. Georgia’s best hitter, Rylan Zaborowski, doubled in the first run of the game off Clemente, and Christian Adams began his 3-for-4 day with a three-run home in the second.

MILWAUKEE — After six long years — which likely felt more like a lifetime for the fan base — Kentucky basketball is back in the NCAA Tournament‘s Sweet 16. Illinois, the 6-seed in the Midwest Region, proved no match Sunday, as 3-seed UK notched a second-round win at Fiserv Forum.
It marks the Wildcats‘ first time advancing out of the opening weekend of March Madness since 2019.
