When I tore off the latest page of my Far Side desk calendar, the date “March 5” really stuck out to me.
Why?
It wasn’t a holiday, it wasn’t trash day, it wasn’t my anniversary (I think), so then why did it jump out?

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) — Star freshman Caleb Wilson is increasing practice work for No. 17 North Carolina ahead of the rivalry game at No. 1 Duke but has yet to be cleared for 5-on-5 action due to his hand fracture, coach Hubert Davis said Thursday.
The 6-foot-10 high-end NBA prospect has missed six games since he hurt his left hand in a Feb. 10 loss at Miami. The injury is to Wilson’s off hand, though Davis said earlier this week that he had shed his cast and had been doing non-contact work like dribbling and shooting.
“He is progressing,” Davis said Thursday.
After winning a combined 21 games during the 2023 and 2024 seasons, the Ada High School boys soccer team stumbled a bit last spring, finishing 5-10.
Thanks to an experienced senior class and an influx of talented newcomers, Ada head coach Larry Morgan fully expects the Cougars to turn things around in 2026.
“With a very strong senior class and a plethora of new freshmen talent, I expect us to bounce back and make a strong push for the playoffs again this season,” Morgan told The Ada News. “Last year was a down year by our standards.

Ada High School girls soccer coach Stephanie Gutierrez was dealt a tough hand during her first season with the Lady Cougars.
Injuries piled up — and so did the losses. Ada dropped 11 matches a year ago.
Still, the season offered its share of silver linings. Four of those setbacks were decided by a single goal, and three more were two-goal losses. Several matches went to overtime, including the final three of the season.
No matter the circumstances, the Lady Cougars showed up and competed.
