You would think that Iga Swiatek – the women’s No. 1 tennis player in the world – would have no problem advancing past the third round of Wimbledon.
After all, she had won 21 consecutive matches, and is fresh off her fourth French Open win in June. Surely, the Polish superstar could handle the No. 35-ranked Yulia Putintseva, right?
Wrong.
Swiatek lost to her opponent from Kazakhstan in three sets, 6-3, 1-6, 2-6. Wimbledon continues to be a nightmare of a destination for her, as she has never reached beyond the quarterfinals of this tournament in her career.
Minnesota Twins infielder Jose Miranda had a brush with Major League Baseball history on Saturday afternoon against the Houston Astros.
Miranda, who’s having an outstanding season for the Twins, has been on a nearly unbelievable run of form over his past few games. On the July 4th game against the Detroit Tigers, Miranda went 5 for 5 with three doubles. He followed that with another 4 for 4 performance with a double in Friday night’s game.
And then he added two more hits in his first two official at bats in Saturday’s game.

Spieth made the most of Moving Day at the John Deere Classic as he vaulted into contention for a potential third title.
Jordan Spieth came out blazing hot at the John Deere Classic on Saturday with his lowest round of the season. He carded an 8-under 63 to sit at 14-under total. Spieth jumped 33 spots on Moving Day, making the most of his early tee time.
The former Texas Longhorn was 6-under through eight holes as he went out in 29 strokes. He added two more birdies on the 10th and 12th before his only hiccup of the day.
It was a nice Saturday in the Bronx for the New York Yankees, who spent the afternoon absolutely throttling their hated rivals, the Boston Red Sox, 14-4.
However, a big chunk of the offense came from a somewhat unexpected place in rookie Ben Rice.
The 35-year-old out of Dartmouth hasn’t even played 20 games in the Majors yet having spent most of the season with Double-A Somerset Patriots and the Triple-A Scranton/WIles-Barre RailRiders.
