Just hours after trading captain Jacob Trouba — which came just hours after news that they planned to scratch him on Friday and waive him if they couldn’t get a deal done — the Broadway Blueshirts announced that they had come to terms with netminder and former Vezina Trophy-winner Igor Shesterkin on a deal that makes him the highest paid goalie in NHL history.

Sports fans had two immediate questions to ask after Adrian Wojnarowski announced his shock retirement from ESPN in September. 1) Why? 2) Who in their right mind would walk away from all that guaranteed money?
As fans knew, Wojnarowski had about three years remaining on his current deal with ESPN, at $7.3 million per year. He walked away from at least $20 million – plus the money he would have received upon his next deal, one that would have probably edged him closer to $10 million annually.

Martin, fresh off of a rookie season with the Las Vegas Aces, will reportedly be selected by the Golden State Valkyries in the expansion draft.
The Golden State Valkyries have selected Kate Martin and Kayla Thornton in their expansion draft, per Sabreena Merchant and Marcus Thompson II of the Athletic. The Las Vegas Aces rookie and New York Liberty veteran will both be headed to the Bay as part of the inaugural team on the WNBA’s 15th team.
Neither selection comes as a massive shock.

Scottie Scheffler is in a tier of his own, and he proved that again on day two at the Hero World Challenge.
After Scottie Scheffler roared out of the gates with three straight birdies, you had a feeling that his name would sit atop the leaderboard by day’s end.
That indeed proved to be the case. Scheffler went on a heater on the front nine, draining seven birdies to make the turn with a 7-under 29.
The former Cy Young winner is expected to return to the Guardians in the middle of 2025.
The almost 42-year-old is looking for his next team after an up-and-down season in 2024.
