Mar. 18—GRANITEVILLE — There may have been some nerves for Asterisk Talley last spring at Sage Valley Golf Club, but not outwardly so for the then-15-year-old.
Seemingly unbothered by any potential bad break, or any spot where the pressure may have gotten too heavy, she set records for both low tournament score and margin of victory in the third year of the girls’ championship at the Junior Invitational.
Now she’s back again at Sage Valley with another year of experience and growth under her belt — and a boatload of prestigious titles as the No.

Mar. 18—MITCHELL — Following a lucrative last week at the plate, Dakota Wesleyan softball’s McKinnely Mull was named the NAIA and GPAC player of the week.
Mull tore it up offensively, hitting .565 over six games for the Tigers. She also drove in 15 runs and scored six times. In total, she had eight extra-base hits with four home runs, three triples and a double. She was also working hard on the base path, stealing four bases as DWU went 5-1 over that six-game span.
A senior utility player from Vernal, Utah, Mull has been one of DWU’s best players this season.

For a veteran squad that has guided the program back to a fifth consecutive state tournament, the seventh such five-year spree in MHS history, details like seeding or potential opponents aren’t top of mind. Even as the No.
Mar. 18—FREEMAN, S.D. — Following the SoDak 16 round, Freeman boys basketball coach Lance Friesen and player Sawyer Wipf remembered winning only once in the Wipf’s freshman year.
It makes the following trip north to Aberdeen even more impressive.
In only four years, the Flyers went from finishing 1-20 in the 2021-22 season to now being one of the final eight teams vying for this year’s Class B state championship. It’s Freeman’s first state tournament appearance since 1999 and the eighth tournament appearance in program history.
