The New England Patriots finally moved on from head coach Bill Belichick after 24 seasons and six Super Bowl victories. But they didn’t completely change the old guard, electing to hire Jerod Mayo as their next head coach.
Mayo played 8 seasons for the Patriots, all under Belichick, from 2008-15. Immediately upon his retirement, Belichick hired Mayo to coach the team’s linebackers. Mayo held that position from 2019-2023 until the team elevated him to head coach this past off-season.

To the chagrin of all the new women’s basketball fans (and everyone with a shred of common sense), Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark was left off the Team USA women’s basketball roster for the 2024 Summer Olympics.
Don’t ask me to explain why this was the case. Clark was talented enough to be playing with the current roster, and her presence on the team would have brought more viewers and followers to a sport that is desperate for more of each. But USA Basketball had to get in its own way and leave her to sit at home.

NFL quarterbacks are getting really expensive. So expensive, in fact, that Patrick Mahomes is starting to look like a bargain.
Over the weekend, Miami’s Tua Tagovailoa and Green Bay’s Jordan Love both signed massive contract extensions that put them in the top five in the NFL for average salary — and yes, they’re now making more per year than Mahomes.
Still, the Kansas City Chiefs QB isn’t sweating it.
“It’s awesome for the game of football,” Mahomes told USA TODAY on Sunday.
