Mike McCarthy and the Dallas Cowboys are going their separate ways after five seasons.
Owner Jerry Jones and McCarthy obviously are not of the same mind about the coach returning, a source confirmed to OutKick, so the coach is about to embark on a job search and the Cowboys are about to start a coaching search in earnest.
The Cowboys have not yet commented publicly on the matter.
The details of how this happened are murky.
NFL Media is reporting the sides engaged in contract discussions and could not agree on the length of a new deal.

Women coaches with NBA experience are flocking to the WNBA — and former Memphis Grizzlies assistant Sonia Raman is the latest such example.
On Monday, the New York Liberty announced that Raman would be joining head coach Sandy Brondello’s coaching staff, rounding out a staff that also includes returning assistant coaches Olaf Lange and Zach O’Brien.
