Three former Northwestern baseball staffers plan to file a lawsuit against the university Monday, alleging “retaliatory discharge, harassment, bullying and abuse” at the hands of former coach Jim Foster, per a Sunday afternoon release.
Foster was fired on July 13 after a report from Danny Parkins of 670 The Score in Chicago alleged that Foster “created a toxic environment that has run off coaches, broken the spirit of his team … and was the subject of an HR investigation.” Parkins cited nine sources in his report.

When faced with a seemingly insurmountable lead, there’s long been a saying that there’s no clock in baseball. The advent of the pitch timer has made those words technically inaccurate, though the point remains: If your team is behind, the fight to mount a comeback is not against time but, rather, simply the opponent.
And in the cases of the Marlins and Nationals on Sunday, they proved those words right with a pair of historic ninth-inning rallies.

All four Saints’ preseason games and the first two of the regular season were away as workers repaired the Superdome post Hurricane Katrina.
New Saints quarterback Derek Carr speaks after his debut for New Orleans Sunday at the Caesars Superdome.

Saints kicker Blake Grupe entered Sunday as the archetypical player trying to make it in the NFL preseason.
The Sedalia, Mo. native and Arkansas State graduate went undrafted, despite scoring the second-most points in the history of the Sun Belt and putting together a decent fifth season at Notre Dame. He signed with New Orleans shortly after the draft ended, despite the fact the Saints already have a Pro Bowl kicker in Wil Lutz.
Grupe, however, emerged from the Saints’ 26–24 win over the Chiefs a cult hero after drilling the winning 31-yard field goal at the buzzer.
