Just when you thought the Carolina Panthers’ season couldn’t get any worse, head coach Frank Reich reminded us that’s not true.
During a Friday press conference, a reporter asked Reich how he plans on handling the potentially high amount of Dallas Cowboys fans on Sunday. Reich said that one of the measures his team took in preparation was instituting a silent count on offense.
“I think everyone knows how well Dallas travels,” Reich said. We have a great city that other teams’ fans like to come to. … We’re prepared either way.

The Michigan Outrage Meter seems to no longer be registering.
Last Friday it was all restraining order and rush-to-judgment this and due-process that and unfairrrrrrrr. The next day it was tears from the interim coach. On Sunday came a dramatic social media post from the school president about facing “challenges and adversity.” Monday gave us a declaration that the Wolverines should be considered “America’s team.”
Today? No outrage. After receiving new information, the only audible sounds from Ann Arbor are the circling of wagons.

As usual, we’re getting ready for Sunday. But after what happened Thursday night, it’s hard not to start with a look back …
• In September, I never thought we’d be 10 weeks deep, and two of the AFC’s three superpowers would be on the outside of the conference’s playoff picture looking in.
But here we are. We diagnosed the Bills’ ills earlier this week. Today, we cover the Bengals.
And we cover the Bengals because like injuries have felled Buffalo (particularly on defense) this fall, a very, very big one nipped Cincinnati on Thursday night.

There’s been a lot of talk about that Connor Bedard kid who is having a pretty good season in Chicago, but he’s not the only youngster in town…and his name is Lukas Reichel.
It was high time that 21-year-old Reichel got a bit of that spotlight and that happened on Thursday night against the Tampa Bay Lightning when he scored his first goal of the season.
Reichel had no idea at first that he had lit the lamp to end a 13-game goalless streak to open the season.

The rule changes MLB made for the 2023 season were generally viewed as a success.
The pitch clock significantly shortened game times. After creeping up over three hours, the average for 2023 finished under two hours and 40 minutes. The physical size of the bases was increased. That made stealing easier and resulted in record setting performances from superstars like Ronald Acuna Jr.
But despite the 2023 changes working as intended, MLB isn’t done tinkering with the game in order to speed up pace of play.

Joe Burrow’s season-ending wrist injury is brutal news for the Bengals, who now likely have to rely on backup quarterback Jake Browning to save their season. Browning, who played four years of college football at Washington, is in his fifth NFL season but had not played in a game until this year.
Cincinnati is the latest team to have to regroup at quarterback, as there are now six teams who likely lost their starter to injury for the season. It also led to former longtime backup QB Chase Daniel to chime in about the state of the position in the NFL.

Ohio State faces Minnesota on Saturday, but the team is already starting to troll That Team Up North.
Before each game, the Buckeyes hand out actual Buckeye nuts to every player with an inspirational message on the front. I’m not sure how receiving a nut before a game gets your adrenaline pumping, but it apparently works for them.
The special message taped on the Buckeye read, “Ohio Against The World!” While it’s a common phrase echoed by Buckeye nation, it’s an interesting choice of words, given that Michigan’s current mantra is “Michigan vs. Everybody.

On Monday, with the clock ticking down, Saint Peter’s senior guard Rachel Kuhl drove to the lane for a layup, putting her team up by four over Central Connecticut State. The shot looked routine, and, while it provided some crucial late insurance, it wasn’t a go-ahead or a buzzer beater. Yet it felt “very surreal,” Kuhl says. The players were ecstatic.
As soon as they got to the locker room, Kuhl and her fellow Peacocks drenched coach Jennifer Leedham, pouring out every water bottle they could get their hands on for a victory baptism.
“They absolutely soaked me,” Leedham says.
