When the Lakers lost to the Nuggets 113–111 Monday evening to close the book on Los Angeles’s 2023 season, basketball fans were left to confront the unthinkable: the potential retirement of Los Angeles forward LeBron James.
James was evasive, opaque and terse during his presser after dropping 40 points in Denver’s comeback victory, telling reporters he “[has] to think about” potentially walking away from the game after 20 years.
The news took the basketball world by surprise for a number of reasons, not the least of which was the money James would leave behind by retiring.

It’s May. Repeat that to yourself as you read this story because many NFL stories this month have an expiration date of late July when training camps open.
Having said that, the Houston Texans are moving ahead with their OTAs. And rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud, the club’s first selection in the April draft and No. 2 overall, was working with the second-team offense on Tuesday.
Veteran quarterback Davis Mills was taking the first-team snaps in team and 7-on-7 drills.
LeBron James has not had his exit interview with Lakers coach Darvin Ham and general manager Rob Pelinka following the franchise’s series-ending Game 4 loss to the Nuggets in the Western Conference finals on Monday night.
James, who played in only 55 regular-season games this season due to several injuries, finished Game 4 with a stellar 40-point performance to conclude the final game of his 20th NBA season. Despite his incredible outing, Denver earned the series sweep of Los Angeles.
Here are two players to bet to finish top 20 who can also win the Charles Schwab Challenge.
The future of the Oakland A’s had been one of Major League Baseball’s biggest questions.
That question finally seemed to be answered when the team recently announced it was purchasing land in Las Vegas. With the deteriorating stadium situation and absurdly low attendance in Oakland, that seemed to settle the uncertainty.
After just a few weeks, however, the A’s revealed an entirely new arrangement, albeit with a similar ultimate result.
Nick Saban recently took a vacation to Italy, and a number of pictures of the Alabama football coach taking in the sights ended up on social media.
Saban is now back in the United States and hosted a charity golf tournament in Birmingham on Tuesday. He spoke about his experiences in Italy, where he ran into both Alabama fans and other SEC school supporters.
“It’s something to say about the brand that we have, an iconic brand, the Crimson Tide,” Saban said. “You get ‘Roll Tide’ in Venice, Florence, Rome and the Amalfi Coast. It’s everywhere I went.
New Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers suffered a strained calf that kept him out of practice on Tuesday, per CBS Sports’ Josina Anderson. Rodgers confirmed the news after practice and said is not expected to be sidelined for long.
“I don’t think it’s too serious,” he said, via ESPN’s Rich Cimini.
Tuesday marked the first day of the Jets’ voluntary OTA practices, and the first open practice of the offseason. Rodgers spent the day on the field, but didn’t participate as he was dealing with his injury.

The Monaco curse is real
Charles Leclerc’s struggles in the Monaco Grand Prix are well documented. Despite a number of great chances over his Formula 1 career, the Ferrari driver has yet to taste victory in his home race.
“Always Sunny in Philadelphia” star Charlie Day decided to crush a beer while supporting Wrexham, and that nearly cost his buddy Rob McElhenney some money.
McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds successfully brought Wrexham out of the National League in year two of the duo’s ownership. The rise of Wrexham under their watch has been without question one of the most fascinating stories in all of sports. It’s been a ton of fun to watch, even for people who don’t know anything about international soccer.
Former No. 1 NFL Draft pick Baker Mayfield is on his fourth team in his sixth season. After four seasons in Cleveland, the team traded him to Carolina. The Panthers released him midseason and the Rams picked him up. This offseason, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed him to compete for the starting quarterback spot.
Mayfield, along with 2021 second-round selection Kyle Trask, are the two main combatants in the race. Tom Brady, of course, retired again this past offseason.
