This is so beautifully poetic. Clark toasts her opposition during the season, and is spread on it before the next.

Texans rookie C.J. Stroud made some mistakes Thursday night in his debut, but that’s all part of the process
Just a scant few plays into his NFL career, rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud of the Houston Texans made a big mistake. In all likelihood, it will not be his last mistake during his NFL career.
And both of those statements are perfectly fine.
Stroud got his first true taste of NFL action on Thursday night, as the Texans traveled to Foxborough to take on Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots.

It’s a Tuesday afternoon in the U.S., and Declan Rice is excited to be here. “Very excited,” actually, he says.
“Here” does not necessarily mean the preseason American tour where he made his Arsenal debut in front of a sellout crowd at D.C. United’s Audi Field. The Gunners’ newly minted £105 million ($133.2 million) transfer from West Ham, now the most expensive British player of all time, is referring to his new London club.
“It’s been a big transition the last couple of days,” Rice says. “Obviously used to one way of playing and coaching for so long.

Could Bailey Zappe win the Patriots starting quarterback job?
While it may be unlikely, it’s not the first time the question has been asked. Zappe was impressive in relief of Mac Jones last season while Jones nursed a high ankle sprain, and Zappe impressed once again in Thursday night’s preseason debut.
Jones was a healthy scratch on Thursday night against the Texans, so Zappe got the nod. The second-year quarterback went 12-of-14 passing against Houston for 79 yards.

As the Women’s World Cup continues through to the quarterfinals and semifinals, the USWNT is left to ponder what went wrong. Carli Lloyd, the former USWNT midfielder and current Fox Sports analyst, believes she knows where the program has gone awry.
On a Fox broadcast, Lloyd explained that the issues with the U.S. soccer program comes from a lack of development at the youth level.
“This is a humble moment for the program—for the players, for the coaching staff—and it’s a wake-up call for the entire program,” Lloyd said.

I caught the Texans while they were in Foxboro—Houston and New England are the 17th and 18th teams I’ve seen this summer—for their preseason opener. The game itself, not so interesting. But the team in Houston, for the first time in a little while, should be …

Wisconsin football coach Luke Fickell means business when it comes to not allowing shortcuts in the program.
Fickell and the Badgers open the season week one against Buffalo, and the energy around the program is insane.
For the first time in a long time, it really does feel like Wisconsin is trending up after years of mediocrity and disappointing play.
Well, one of the reasons for the turnaround before a single regular season snap is an attitude shift behind the scenes.
Luke Fickell doesn’t let Wisconsin players take shortcuts.

What an catch!
Something is in the water when it comes to the Minnesota Vikings wide receivers. The team just keeps managing to find talent at the position, and it’s far too early to anoint Jordan Addison as a “great one,” but damn if this moment on Thursday night wasn’t impressive as hell.

Texans rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud made his professional debut on Thursday night against the Patriots as the team kicked off preseason action.
Stroud’s performance against a solid Patriots defense left much to be desired. In two series, Stroud finished 2-for-4 passing for 13 yards and an interception.
Despite the interception, Stroud remained positive after his first outing. He thought his debut was “solid” and called the errant pass that was intercepted by Patriots DB Jalen Mills a “learning opportunity.”
“Just trust my eyes,” Stroud said of his interception.
