Veteran point guard Ricky Rubio announced his retirement from the NBA on Wednesday after 12 seasons.
ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reports that Rubio and the Cleveland Cavaliers agreed to a contract buyout to bypass the two years left on his contract at just over $6 million per season.
Rubio spent the past two seasons with the Cavaliers, but he hasn’t played this year as he has been away from the team to focus on his mental health. In his statement, Rubio mentioned how much focusing on his mental health played a role in his retirement.

Viktor Hovland is among the many PGA Tour pros making changes into the new year.
Ahead of The Sentry, news surfaced that he and his swing coach, Joe Mayo, are no longer working together, per Golf Channel’s Todd Lewis.
“Viktor Hovland is no longer working with his swing coach Joe Mayo,” Lewis wrote. “Hovland did not want to get into details regarding the split.

The school announced Thursday morning that junior forward Bryce Hopkins, a First Team All-Big East selection a year ago, will miss the remainder of the season with a torn ACL in his left knee. Hopkins sustained the injury early in the second half of Wednesday night’s game against Seton Hall, when his leg appeared to give out as he attempted to lead a fast break.
