Matthews and the Toronto Maple Leafs completed a 4-year, $53 million extension that carries an AAV of $13.25 million, per Yahoo Sports. That makes him the highest-paid player based on AAV topping the Colorado Avalanche’s Nathan McKinnon who previously held that title with his AAV of $12.6 million.

Throughout most of the 2023 season, Athletics’ fans have tried to keep the team in Oakland despite the ongoing, expected move to Las Vegas.
Fans began chanting “Sell the team!” and even wearing t-shirts with the same message written on them when attending home games. This chant was directed in particular at owner John Fisher, who has been at the forefront of the team’s move to Las Vegas.

Los Angeles Angels superstar Shohei Ohtani left Wednesday’s game early with what the team is calling arm fatigue.
The Angels were hosting the Cincinnati Reds in what was Ohtani’s first start in about two weeks. After a meeting on the mound he suddenly exited the game in just the second inning.
