McIlroy knows what kind of teammate Viktor Hovland will be in Rome for the Ryder Cup after his impressive BMW Championship victory.
Rory McIlroy played alongside Viktor Hovland on Sunday at the BMW Championship. He witnessed firsthand what kind of zone the Norweigan was in.
The former Oklahoma State Cowboy shot a final-round 61 to finish with the course record at Olympia Fields. He made 10 birdies, including seven on the back nine to incredibly card eight 3s.
“He just keeps his foot on the pedal — just isn’t scared,” McIlroy said.

Hovland went crazy low at the BMW Championship for the win. He then dropped a bomb that put into perspective what this round meant.
Viktor Hovland provided one of the best rounds of the season Sunday at the BMW Championship. Hovland shot a course record 61 at Olympia Fields Country Club taking away the record that Max Homa and Sam Burns set earlier in the week.
Hovland came home in 28 strokes and made 10 birdies on his round.
“Definitely has to be the best round I’ve ever played,” Hovland told CBS Sports reporter Amanda Renner.

In the penultimate event of the PGA Tour season, Viktor Hovland just played one of the best rounds of golf of the entire year. Hovland carded a course record 61 at Olympia Fields Country Club during the final round of the BMW Championship. His nine-under round moved him to 17-under for the event, enough to overtake and shock the World’s No. 1 golfer, Scottie Scheffler.
Heading into the final round, Scheffler co-led the event alongside Matt Fitzpatrick at 11-under par. Hovland was three shots back at eight-under par. He and Rory McIlroy were tied for fifth place.

Maxie Baughan—a nine-time Pro Bowl selection at linebacker for the Eagles, Rams and Washington—died Saturday, the Eagles announced in a statement. He was 85.
Baughan played for the Eagles from 1960-65, winning the NFL title as a rookie in ’60. He starred for Los Angeles from 1966-70, and came out of retirement to play one final year for Washington in 1974.
A Forkland, Ala., native, Baughan played collegiately for Georgia Tech under legendary coach Bobby Dodd.

Down by four shots with nine holes to go, Viktor Hovland went nuclear to shoot a course record and win the BMW Championship.
Viktor Hovland blacked out on the back nine as he demolished everything in his path. He shot a final-round 61 to win the BMW Championship and set the course record at Olympia Fields Country Club.
Max Homa had set the course record Friday with a 62, which was then matched by Sam Burns Saturday.
This victory is his second on the season after he won The Memorial, and it marks his first FedEx Cup playoff win.
