Five Black police officers were charged Thursday for fatally beating the 29-year-old, who was Black, during a traffic stop in Memphis on Jan. 7.
The Grizzlies issued a statement Friday, ahead of their game against the Timberwolves in Minnesota, addressing the release of body cam video showing the recent killing of 29-year-old Memphis resident Tyre Nichols at the hands of five police officers. 
In response to the events and the release of the graphic video on Friday, the Grizzlies shared a message to Nichols’s family and the city of Memphis along with the hashtag, #JusticeForTyre.

British Olympians are speaking out against a new proposal that may force them to compete against transgender women.
Beth Dobbin, Emily Diamond and Ellie Baker said the plan is unfair to female athletes due to biological advantages.
“Women deserve to compete exclusively against competitors who don’t have any of the advantages that the female category exists to exclude,” Dobbin tweeted. “Testosterone is what creates these advantages and lowering it doesn’t level the playing field.”

The National League batting champion will reportedly remain in the Queens after signing a contract extension.
The Mets and Jeff McNeil have reportedly reached a four-year, $50 million contract extension, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan. The deal is pending a physical.
The agreement reportedly will also include a fifth-year club option that could potentially be worth $63.75 million. McNeil, the National League batting champion, along with his agent met with the Mets leadership at Citi Field this week to secure a deal.

Dana White’s Power Slap has had a somewhat chaotic rollout, but it’s not affecting the “sport” so far where it matters – in the ratings.
The newly launched “fight league,” led by UFC President Dana White had a significant rise in the ratings this past Wednesday during the second week installment of it’s weekly TBS program.
“Power Slap League,” which airs at 10pm ET saw a rise from 295,000 viewers in its debut to 413,000 viewers this past Wednesday. It drew a 0.13 rating among 18-49 year-old viewers and finished 30th in all of cable broadcasts this week.
