After positioning themselves as trade deadline buyers for the first time in years, the Orioles snuck in a deal just before Tuesday’s 6 p.m. ET deadline to land an impact starting pitcher for the stretch run.
Baltimore is reportedly acquiring righthander Jack Flaherty in a trade with the Cardinals, according to MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand. The move will give the first-place Orioles a boost to the rotation as they look to hold off the Rays in the American League East. Baltimore entered the day 1 1/2 games ahead of Tampa Bay with 56 games to play.

Toronto Blue Jays centerfielder Kevin Kiermaier is going to have to find a new way to get to work after he revealed that his bike had been stolen.
Earlier this year, Kiermaier told The Toronto Sun about riding his bike to Rogers Centre.
“I rode my bike here today – four and a half mile trip – the first time I’ve done that in my big league career,” Kiermaier said in April. “I had an absolute blast. Helmet and all.”
He said that 4 and a half miles was more manageable than when he was playing for the Rays and lived considerably farther from Tropicana Field.

Mavericks point guard Kyrie Irving responded to a fan on Twitter on Tuesday who claimed the 31-year-old has struggled to find success in the NBA since parting ways with former teammate LeBron James.
The Twitter account “Basketball Forever” posted a graphic highlighting Irving’s previous six seasons dating back to his departure from the Cavaliers. During that time, Irving has featured for three teams: the Celtics, Nets, and Mavs.
Hunter Dekkers allegedly placed 26 wagers on Iowa State sporting events, including a football game in 2021 when he was the Cyclones’ backup quarterback.
Bryce Young is the perfect example of why Name, Image and Likeness is a good great thing. The starting quarterback for the Carolina Panthers revealed Tuesday that he had to try and go unrecognized while making an extra buck on the side during his freshman year of college.
Young, a five-star recruit in the Class of 2020, was the No. 1 player in the country upon arrival to Tuscaloosa. Alabama fans knew exactly who he was and what he looked like (even though he was not the starter in Year 1) which made things tricky.
With Shohei Ohtani set to hit free agency at season’s end and stating a desire to win, L.A. decided to keep him and try to deliver his first postseason appearance.
Beyond James Harden and Damian Lillard, we try to sort out, based on past precedent, which NBA superstar is most likely to move next.
“We do have one year of experience, albeit we still have a very young football team,” head coach Matt Eberflus said. “But I do think they need to get some time in the preseason for sure.
After years of expansion, with programs constantly one-upping each other in a fight to impress teenage talent, the business of college football is at a breaking point.
The Tigers and Dodgers agreed to a trade involving pitcher Eduardo Rodríguez, but the left-handed pitcher invoked his no-trade clause to kill the deal, ESPN’s Jeff Passan reports.
Rodríguez, who signed a five-year deal with the Tigers before the 2022 season, has a limited 10-team no-trade clause in his contract. Los Angeles is reportedly one of those ten teams, and he apparently opted to remain in Detroit instead of going to a contender.
Last year, in his first season with the Tigers, Rodríguez was away from the team for three months as he dealt with family-related issues.
