Virginia baseball infielder Jake Gelof’s third home run of the season was the shortest of his career. It was not even hit over the outfield wall, technically.
With one on and one out in the bottom of the second inning against Longwood, Gelof stepped into the box with the count at 2-0. He saw the offering barreling down toward the dish and liked what he saw.
Gelof reared back, swung forward and put his bat on the ball. It sounded good off of the bat, but the ball quickly died at the warning track.

A steady stream of star player-coach drama has occurred within the Atlanta Hawks. Unfortunately for coach Nate McMillan, the team officially gave up on his side of the beef and decided to cut ties.
According to ESPN NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski, the Atlanta Hawks dismissed McMillan as head coach on Tuesday amid a season full of acrimony with star guard Trae Young.
Disputes With Young Precede McMillan’s Dismissal
One dispute earlier in the season between McMillan and Young led to the star guard’s absence for one game.

Atlanta is reportedly in search of its next head coach.
The Hawks have fired coach Nate McMillan, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. 
McMillan was in his third season as Atlanta’s head coach and his fourth with the franchise. He took over as at the Hawks head coach in the middle of the 2020-21 season.
Assistant coach Joe Prunty will serve as interim head coach, according to Wojnarowski.
Atlanta has made changes to its front office in recent months. Now, the Hawks will be in search of a new coach heading into the second half of the season.

Bam Adebayo had a bold welcome message for Kevin Love after the Heat acquired the veteran forward following his buyout from the Cavaliers. Miami’s All-Star center left his new teammate a hilarious comment on his latest Instagram post, telling Love that he’s expecting a big contribution on offense, via Playbook Sports. 
“Better Make Some F—— Shots,” joked Adebayo in his Instagram comment.
Love was quick to reply, informing the Heat star that he had some expectations of his own.
