No college baseball experience? No problem for Oregon State quarterback DJ Uiagalelei.
The Los Angeles Dodgers selected the former Clemson quarterback in the 20th round — the 610th pick — of the MLB Draft. However, the Inland Empire, California native has played baseball competitively since he was in high school.
Though in fairness, for a 22-year-old, that wasn’t all that long ago.
Back in high school, Uiagalelei was a two-sport athlete playing both football and baseball.

Former NFL cornerback Asante Samuel has drawn the ire of two Jets standouts at the same position.
Samuel made the questionable claim that soon-to-be Hall of Famer Darrelle Revis and reigning Defensive Rookie of the Year Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner are overrated because of New York media coverage.
The retired 42-year-old Samuel, who won two Super Bowls with the Patriots and later played for the Eagles and Falcons, took issue with a ranking of the NFL’s top active cornerbacks conducted by ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.

Monday night’s Home Run Derby featured a thrilling conclusion when Blue Jays star Vladimir Guerrero Jr. edged out Rays outfielder Randy Arozarena in the final round by a 25–23 margin, with Arozarena coming up just short in the final 30 seconds. The result was a historic win, with Guerrero winning the event 16 years after his father, Vladimir Guerrero Sr., won in San Francisco, making them the first father-son ever duo to win the Derby.

In round 20 of the 2023 MLB draft, the Dodgers took a flier on a standout college football player. Los Angeles selected Oregon State quarterback DJ Uiagalelei, and the team listed him as a two-way player.
Uiagalelei was the No. 1-ranked quarterback in the class of 2020 when he committed to Clemson. He was also a strong baseball prospect and considered playing baseball in college, before deciding to focus on football at Clemson.
Uiagalelei has not played competitive baseball since attending St. John Bosco High School in Bellflower, Calif.

Hell, ESPN is going to dedicate an entire week to arguing about Madden ratings. But a list of the NFL’s best cornerbacks angered former NFL CB Asante Samuel and his shots at Sauce Gardner did not go unnoticed by the young New York Jets star.
According to a ranking from Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, who spoke to NFL executives, players, scouts and coaches, Denver Broncos corner Pat Surtain is the best in the league.

With the 69th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, the Texans selected Nathaniel ‘Tank’ Dell out of their backyard. The 23-year-old wide receiver spent the last three years at the University of Houston and will join a Houston franchise that is looking to rebuild around No. 2 overall pick C.J. Stroud.
Dell could be a big part of the future in southeast Texas. By all accounts, although he has only been with the team, he is already impressing coaches and players within the organization.

Northwestern University president Michael Schill may be reading The Daily Northwestern more often now, if he was not already.
It’s just a student newspaper on the campus in Evanston, Illinois, near Chicago. Most of the reporters, writers and editors are undergraduates. Teenagers. But it’s a damn good paper – one of the best college student newspapers in the nation.
