Former USC football player C.R. Roberts died at the age of 87 on Tuesday due to natural causes, the school announced in a press release.
Roberts is best known for his stand against segregation during the 1956 season when USC was headed to Texas to play the Longhorns. Texas’s football program didn’t want Roberts and USC’s other Black players to compete in the game. Additionally, USC had difficulty finding a hotel in Texas that would allow Black customers.
In the game itself, Roberts enjoyed a memorable performance.

Tennessee’s football program will vacate 11 total wins from the 2019 and ’20 seasons as part of punishment levied by the NCAA on Friday for recruiting violations during former coach Jeremy Pruitt’s time with the team.
From the investigation, the NCAA found that the program committed approximately 200 infractions during Pruitt’s tenure before he was fired in January 2021. Pruitt was found to have paid recruits and their families, and other staff members were found to have violated NCAA rules as well.

While the Lakers decide the exact route they want to go with their final open roster spots, likely through free agency, one thing that’s now known is that they’re targeting a big man. As The Athletic’s Jovan Buha reported last week, general manager Rob Pelinka revealed Los Angeles is “looking to add an additional center.”
Going one step further, Buha reported the Lakers have an interest in two free-agent big men—Christian Wood and Bismack Biyombo.
Five riders are in serious contention to win the Tour de France. Jonas Vingegaard entered Sunday’s Stage 15 as the leader with Tadej Pogačar just 10 seconds behind in the standings. Carlos Rodríguez Cano and Jai Hindley were both more than four minutes and 40 seconds back from the top two, with Adam Yates 30(ish) second back from there.
Although Vingegaard and Pogačar are best set up to win by a large margin, all five guys technically have a chance depending on how things go from here on out.
Stage 14 of the Tour de France was the craziest thus far this year. The final result included an epic back-and-forth chase after controversy surrounding a motorcycle that got in the way of an attack, and it all went down after a massive, 50+ rider crash delayed the race.
Adrien Petit was one of the rides involved in the early-stage wreck. The Tour de France doctor recommended that he withdraw from the race.
He finished anyway!
Adrien Petit is a warrior.
Saturday’s crash happened within the first 10 kilometers of the grueling 151.

Daniel Ricciardo is back.
But just how well will he perform in his return to the grid with AlphaTauri?
There is perhaps no one better to offer an opinion that topic than the Honey Badger himself. In his first interview since his stunning return to F1, Ricciardo told F1’s YouTube channel what he expects, and perhaps more importantly, what AlphaTauri expects from him.
Martina Navratilova, the tennis great, has criticised Megan Rapinoe for claiming that she would “absolutely” welcome a transgender player on her team.
It took just 21 minutes in one game at the 2023 NBA Summer League for Trail Blazers guard Scoot Henderson to move the needle in a big way. That level of impact is either the most impressive or most confusing outcome following a summer league debut, possibly in NBA history.
But regardless, the hype surrounding Portland’s potential future star stands out in a big way. And that impact has apparently been felt by some NBA team officials, which Sports Illustrated’s Chris Mannix first reported.
