In a Final for the ages, it is Carlos Alcaraz who stands tallest
Earlier this Championship, Novak Djokovic warned the rest of the tennis world that try as they might, beating him “ain’t happening.”
Well, it happened.
Top-seeded Carlos Alcaraz did just that on Sunday, defeating second-seeded Djokovic 1-6, 7-6(6), 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 to claim his first Wimbledon title in a Final for the ages.
Djokovic got off to a scorching start, winning the first set 6-1 and sending an early message to Alcaraz that it could be a quick dismissal from Centre Court.

1. What is sweeter than a sporting event lives up to its hype?… There are tennis matches. There are classics. Then, there is whatever today was. In a spellbinding five-act theatrical of a men’s final, Carlos Alcaraz beat Novak Djokovic 1-6, 7-6, 6-1, 3-6, 6-4. Barely five weeks ago in Paris against Djokovic, Alcaraz was undone by “tension.” Today he took the pressure and—with all sorts of stress, with supremacy on the line, with his king watching—he won in five sinuous sets. It’s the second major of his career.

The Suns have agreed to a deal with Bol Bol, traded Cameron Payne to San Antonio and acquired second-round picks from the Spurs and Magic, sources told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Tight end Evan Engram and the Jacksonville Jaguars reached agreement on a three-year contract extension, agent Mike McCartney announced Sunday.
Harry Maguire said he has been removed as Manchester United captain by manager Erik ten Hag.

Although the Angels haven’t revealed whether they will trade impending free agent Shohei Ohtani, observers can’t help but compose potential deals for the two-way superstar. To wit, the Yankees are viewed as perhaps the team most motivated to acquire Ohtani prior to the July 31 trade deadline.
However, Fox Sports MLB analyst Eric Karros offered an intriguing take regarding Ohtani’s future.
“Who’s he going to be playing for?” Karros said on Saturday. “He’s going to be playing for the Giants. … That makes all the sense in the world.
Four months after the Jaguars placed the franchise tag on tight end Evan Engram, the 28-year-old has finally secured a long-term deal.
Engram and the team agreed to a three-year, $41.25 million contract on Sunday, according to NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport. The deal includes $24 million in guaranteed money and comes after he was initially set to play the 2023 season under the aforementioned franchise tag, which guaranteed him $11.345 million.
After spending his first five professional seasons with the Giants, Engram signed a one-year deal with the Jaguars as a free agent in March 2022.
