After a turbulent summer for Northwestern, interim coach David Braun and his players felt a sense of relief in returning to action in a loss vs. Rutgers.

Coco Gauff became the first American teenager since Serena Williams more than two decades ago to reach the US Open quarterfinals in consecutive years.
After skipping another Chiefs practice on Sunday amid an extended contract holdout, Chris Jones doesn’t appear to be fazed by the rampant speculation surrounding his future in Kansas City.
The star defensive tackle again made headlines after missing his latest practice following a report stating he remains far apart on talks with the Chiefs’ front office on a new deal. Hours after the report emerged, Jones took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to let the world know that, despite the uncertainty, he’s eager to get back to playing.
By now we all know the cliche “sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good.” Heck, some of us have probably lived that many times in our respective lives.
But sometimes it’s fun to be reminded of it, especially when it’s done in a silly way by professional athletes who shouldn’t have to depend on luck to make a play.
What the Giants did during Sunday’s game against the Padres did that in perfect, and hilarious, fashion.
While the Seminoles could be heading into their best season in years, their ACC future is murky.
In a seven-month span, LSU hired Kim Mulkey in women’s basketball, Jay Johnson in baseball and stole Brian Kelly away from Notre Dame. The first two won national titles in Year 2. Now it’s Kelly’s turn.
This Clippers player had a different kind of shootin’ in mind. (Nothing serious, of course.) Clippers forward Amir Coffey received two criminal charges after being found with a loaded gun in his vehicle and seemingly high on weed in late July.
According to TMZ, “the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office has filed one count of carrying a loaded firearm and one count of carrying a concealed firearm against Coffey.”
Coffey’s car rolled through Los Angeles when a cop pulled him over for speeding around 2:30 a.m. (PST) on July 30.

Do you like movies and TV shows that have dramatic endings that you never saw coming? Well then you’re going to love the very casually revealed plot twist that happened during a sportscaster’s report on a high school football game in South Carolina.
Kevin Bilodeau, who is the sports director at Live5News in Charleston, S.C., was breaking down a game that he covered in person this weekend when he suddenly became the main character of the highlight reel when he shared that he was ejected from the game by the coach and told not to come back to the school.
With the Chiefs set to open their season on Thursday, coach Andy Reid appeared to be less than optimistic on Sunday when asked about star defensive tackle Chris Jones’s status amid his contract holdout.
Reid offered a cryptic response when asked about Jones following the latest speculation surrounding his contract extension talks. The All-Pro pass rusher was again absent from the team’s latest practice with both sides reportedly still “not close on a deal,” according NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
“I don’t know when he’s coming or not coming,” Reid said Sunday, per Rapoport.
The Braves are looking to finish off what would be a very impressive four-game sweep of the Dodgers in Los Angeles on Sunday and they have one of their best pitchers on the mound, Charlie Morton, leading the way.
The 39-year-old right-hander still has some really filthy stuff in his repertoire. That was on full display in the second inning when he got Dodgers DH David Peralta to swing at a curveball that was easily one of the coolest curveballs thrown this year by anyone in Major League Baseball.
Oh, and it was nowhere near the strike zone.
