Four months after the Jaguars placed the franchise tag on tight end Evan Engram, the 28-year-old has finally secured a long-term deal.
Engram and the team agreed to a three-year, $41.25 million contract on Sunday, according to NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport. The deal includes $24 million in guaranteed money and comes after he was initially set to play the 2023 season under the aforementioned franchise tag, which guaranteed him $11.345 million.
After spending his first five professional seasons with the Giants, Engram signed a one-year deal with the Jaguars as a free agent in March 2022.
Still yet without contract extensions, star running backs Saquon Barkley and Josh Jacobs are prepared to sit out portions of training camp until a deal is met, according to Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports. The deadline to sign the franchise tag is Monday at 4 p.m. ET.
As of Thursday morning, the specific reason for Jacobs’s contract holdup with the Raiders is unknown. However, Barkley and the Giants are unable to reach a deal because New York is making offers where guaranteed money falls short of the minimum he would make under the next two franchise tags, per Yahoo Sports.
It’s not often that one NBA team roots for another to acquire a two-time All-Star, but a recent report points to the Mavericks’ stepping happily into that role. The desire here for Dallas is to reportedly hop on board in a potential deal and set itself up to land another coveted player in the process.

After coming up short in his last five events, McIlroy finally started to see putts drop at the right time in Scotland. It marked his first win in the Home of Golf.
