The Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals have been sent off to the United Kingdom to show our pals over there some good old-fashioned American baseball.
The NL Central rivals are in London playing a two-game series at London Stadium sight of the opening and closing ceremonies for the 2012 London Summer Olympics and home to West Ham United of the Premier League,
It’s the first time MLB has been across the pond since 2019 and this year, they were opening the two-game series wouldn’t be the homer fest it was four years ago.

The 2023 European Championships made headlines after a Belgian shot putter bravely filled in for a teammate and took part in the 100M hurdles event on Saturday.
Jolien Maliga Boumkwo, a Belgian athlete who usually competes in shot put, stepped up for her country and participated in the event after two of her teammates were unable to run. 
An injury to hurdles runners Anna Zagr and Hanne Claes left Belgium without an experienced option to run the hurdles, prompting Boumkwo, who had placed seventh in the shot put event on Friday, to fill their place.

Major League Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred confirmed that the league intends to play an upcoming series in Paris.
Manfred made the announcement on Friday as MLB’s 2023 London series kicked off.
The commissioner held a news conference, confirming previous rumors that the league would target Paris as a potential destination.
“We are in the process of working on Paris in 2025,” Manfred said at the news conference. “We’re not at the point where we’re going to make a commitment or a more formal announcement, but it is in the planning stages.

Derek Jeter’s birthday is coming up and while he was across the pond covering the Cubs and Cardinals series at London Stadium, the MLB on Fox crew took a moment to celebrate. However, he wasn’t particularly fond of the gift he received from one of his new colleagues and former adversary, David Ortiz.
Bif Papi reached under the broadcast desk and handed the former Yankees captain a box.
He cracked that puppy open and was the only one on set not amused by what was in it: a Boston Red Sox jersey with his name and number on the back.

Jordan Lyles can finally breathe a sigh of relief.
On Saturday, the Royals starting pitcher finally ended a historic losing streak involving games that he’s started this season.
The Royals, a +210 underdog at SI Sportsbook, came from behind to beat Tampa Bay by a score of 9–4. In the process, the club ended a string of 15 consecutive losses in games started by Lyles, the longest such streak in American League or National League history.
The Rays, the team with the best record in the majors (53–27), jumped out to a 4–0 lead after the second inning.

West Virginia University has found its next men’s basketball coach following Bob Huggins’ resignation and retirement. 
Instead of locking down an outside hire, the program opted to roll with an internal candidate for the 2023-24 NCAA basketball season.
The Mountaineers announced Saturday that assistant coach Josh Eilert will take over as interim head coach for the 2023-24 campaign.
“Josh Eilert is the right person to lead our men’s basketball program next season,” WVU Athletics Director Wren Baker said.

They showed off an awesome tradition as they hopped off the bus and entered Charles Schwab Field.

Then a local primary school boy yelled into a microphone in an English accent “play ball,” but it’s not clear that the Cardinals got the translation, as they were humbled 9–1 by their biggest rival, the Cubs.
It was billed as the Old Rivalry, New Ground, but it could’ve just as easily been called the Massacre at West Ham as the 54,662 fans in attendance at the London Stadium, the home of the English Premier League’s West Ham, saw the Chicago bring its West Side brand of baseball to London.
