From the “it’s about time” department comes a story out of the NCAA. A medical committee is recommending that the college sports governing body stop testing athletes from marijuana and remove cannabis from the banned substances list.
According to CBS Sports, “The Committee on Competitive Safeguards and Medical Aspects of Sports recommends shifting focus to testing for performance enhancing drugs. Championship Sunday is finally here, and someone will win the 123rd U.S. Open. These three guys are under the radar but could pull it out.
Championship Sunday at the U.S. Open will be wild. There are nine players within seven shots of co-leaders Rickie Fowler and Wyndham Clark. With how unpredictable this course has played, anything could happen at Los Angeles Country Club.
Some of the biggest names in golf are sitting toward the top of the leaderboard. But everyone knows that McIlroy, Fowler and Scottie Scheffler could win this tournament.
Irony was on fully display for the sports world when a month-old tweet from Patriots defensive back Jack Jones resurfaced, featuring sharp criticism of Grizzlies star Ja Morant’s behavior regarding firearms. Jones was arrested Friday after two guns were found in his carry-on baggage at a security checkpoint at Boston’s Logan Airport.
Morant is in trouble yet again for flashing a handgun during an Instagram Live video for the second time and is currently facing a 25-game suspension to start the 2023–24 season.
Patrick Reed is not particularly popular amongst the golf community. Fans don’t like him. Other players don’t seem to care much for him. And he’s a cheater. A fan at the US Open reminded him about his ugly past and Reed and his caddie — his wife’s brother, Kessler Karain — apparently tried to get police to eject the fan.
Now, we can’t be certain that’s what took place. But a video on Twitter shows Reed’s caddie pointing at a fan and saying “This one.
American tennis star Frances Tiafoe captured his third ATP title Sunday with a tough three-set win against Germany’s Jan-Lennard Struff at the BOSS Open in Stuttgart.
The victory will push Tiafoe up to the No. 10 world ranking Monday, which will mark the first time that the 25-year-old has cracked the top 10. He will join another American, Taylor Fritz, who’s currently ranked No. 8 in the world, making them the first American male duo to rank in the ATP top 10 since 2012, when Mardy Fish and John Isner were ranked Nos. 9 and 10, respectively.
Professional golfers are very good at golf. This is not breaking news. Guys who regularly compete to win tournaments are extremely good at golf. This is also not breaking news. But Rory McIlroy and Harris English both did something during the US Open that I can’t say I have ever seen from a pro.
As mentioned, professional golfers are very good players who hit incredible golf shots. But they’re not immune from hitting bad shots. It’s rare, but you’ll occasionally see a pro chunk an iron, or blade a wedge or badly hook a tee shot.
MELBOURNE, Australia — Playing Captain Tiger Woods of the United States team and his girlfriend Erica Herman celebrate after winning the Presidents Cup 16-14 during Sunday Singles matches on day four of the 2019 Presidents Cup at Royal Melbourne Golf Course on December 15, 2019. | Photo by Warren Little/Getty Images
Erica Herman, the ex-girlfriend of Tiger Woods, is taking her lawsuit to the Fourth District Court of Appeal in Florida.
Tiger Woods has another fight on his hands, and it’s not taking place on the golf course or in a recovery room.
When it comes to professional sports, few things matter as much as television ratings. Leagues make big money from advertising and they want as many eyeballs as possible. Even if it means sacrificing players’ comfort. Wyndham Clark, co-leading the US Open with Rickie Fowler, ripped the late starting times for Saturday’s third round.
“It’s a little ridiculous we teed off that late,” Clark said, according to USA Today. “I would say right around hole 15 or 16 it started getting to where you couldn’t see that well.
Heading into the NBA offseason, it appears that Wizards guard Bradley Beal is the star most likely to get traded. Already, trade talks reportedly are heating up as the Heat and Suns are reported to be the two finalists for a possible Beal trade.
Because Beal has a no-trade clause, he maintains veto power over any potential deal. That plus a contract that will pay him over $50 million a year for the next four seasons, means the Wizards may have to take on large contracts of older players if they want to part ways with Beal.
