Another Women’s College World College Series, another memorable defensive play for Oklahoma star Jayda Coleman.
The three-time All-American center fielder went all out to keep the defending champion Sooners even with Florida State on Thursday early in Game 2 of the WCWS.
With both teams scoreless in the bottom of the third inning, Seminoles junior Kalei Harding sent a hit into deep center field with runners on first and second. Harding’s shot appeared headed for the stands before it began losing steam with Coleman tracking the ball as it plummeted from the sunny sky.

Yankees play-by-play broadcaster Michael Kay made the most of a golden opportunity on Thursday to deliver a few fast food-inspired puns during Game 1 of the club’s doubleheader against the White Sox.
With New York trailing 6–5, a perfectly-timed showdown between White Sox first baseman Jake Burger and Yankees relief pitcher Michael King teed Kay up for a home run of a joke in the top of seventh inning. After noting that the players’ names on the scoreboard spelled out Burger King, Kay fired up a nod to the burger chain’s famous slogan following a Burger foul ball.
Ahead of the team’s Pride Weekend celebration, the Blue Jays are planning on having relief pitcher Anthony Bass as part of the festivities. Bass is set to catch the ceremonial first pitch before Friday’s game against the Twins, according to MLB.com’s Keegan Matheson.
Last week, Bass came under scrutiny after sharing an anti-LGBTQ video on social media. After deleting the video, which urged viewers to boycott brands like Bud Light and Target for supporting LGBTQ causes, Bass spoke to the media and issued an apology for his actions, but did not field any questions.
As Russell Wilson looks to rebound from a much-criticized 2022 season, Broncos offensive lineman Garett Bolles delivered a staunch message on Thursday to those who doubt the quarterback’s ability to return to form in 2023.
Bolles, who missed the final 13 weeks of the ’22 season with a broken leg, spoke to reporters about his firm belief in Wilson heading into next season amid criticism over his rocky first season in Denver.
The Big Ten Conference released part of the 2024 and 2025 football schedule Thursday and it does not bode well for the USC Trojans.
2024 will mark the first season for both UCLA and USC in the Big Ten, creating some exciting, previously uncommon matchups.
For USC in particular though, the announcement means 2024 is going to be an absolutely brutal year.

When Oklahoma made uncharacteristic errors or its bats went cold in Game 1, the Sooners didn’t press. They played loose and took another step toward history.
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver heard the talk about Ja Morant using a toy gun in his second gun-related video this year. And Silver ain’t buying it.
Hopping on The Dan Patrick Show on Thursday, Silver discussed the latest news on Morant, ahead of the NBA’s suspension news regarding the troubled Grizzlies star.
Play Time’s Over For Ja Morant, Says Adams Silver
During his interview, Silver rejected the notion that Morant was using a toy gun after Claudia Jordan from “The Breakfast Club” radio show made the claim.
Ahead of Thursday night’s game against the Guardians, Red Sox manager Alex Cora opted to bench outfielder Alex Verdugo after the veteran’s lack of effort in Wednesday night’s 5-2 defeat.
The play in question occurred with two outs in the top of the seventh inning and Verdugo at first base. As Masataka Yoshida hit a slow ground ball to second baseman Andrés Giménez, Verdugo broke for second base, then began to pull up midway to the bag and look back at the play, presumably assuming the throw would go to first base.
At first glance, the 2024 and ’25 Big Ten football schedules are a pure adrenaline rush of fresh excitement. Michigan playing USC in the L.A. Coliseum? UCLA coming to the Big House? Ohio State making a regular-season visit to the Rose Bowl? A division-less rotation of opponents that still preserves traditional rivalries?
Cool. Fun. New.
But let’s not forget the irrational foundation upon which this freshness is built. When it comes to the Los Angeles schools’ membership in the Big Ten, the geography still makes no sense.
Matt Dermody will pitch for the Boston Red Sox on Thursday night. Because of past tweets, Dermody is facing pushback from the typical outrage mob leading up to his start, but also receiving grace from the Red Sox.
Boston Pitcher Bashed For Controversial Tweets
Dermody, who spent last year with the Saitama Sea Dragons, posted a tweet in 2021 denouncing homosexuality. He preached a biblical doctrine in his controversial responses.
Matt Dermody later deleted the tweets, though screenshots of his online activity later surfaced, prompting a response by the Red Sox organization.
