USC coach Lincoln Riley voiced his support for Colorado’s Deion Sanders on Friday amid an offseason where the first-year Buffaloes coach faced backlash over his extensive roster overhaul in Boulder.
Speaking to reporters during Pac-12 Media Day, Riley addressed Sanders’s ability to rebuild and fortify his roster within the guidelines of the NCAA’s rules. Over the last eight months, CU has retained just 10 scholarship holdovers while adding 75 new players, including 50-plus transfers, and losing over 40 players to the transfer portal since Sanders was hired on Dec. 3.

Pac-12 commissioner George Kliavkoff praised Colorado head football coach Deion Sanders during a phone interview with USA Today, comparing the stardom of “Coach Prime” to that of pop icons Taylor Swift and Beyonce.
Kliavkoff indicated that thanks to the allure that Sanders has brought to the Buffaloes’ football program, he anticipates the entire conference’s ratings will be up from last season.
“Our ratings are going to be up this year because of Coach Prime,” said Kliavkoff. “He’s great for the league. He’s great for Colorado.

Cardinals manager Oli Marmol was ejected from St. Louis’s game on Saturday, but he didn’t leave the field without giving the umpire an earful.
After a questionable called strike on star third baseman Nolan Arenado from Cubs relief pitcher Daniel Palencia, Marmol voiced his displeasure with the call from home plate umpire Cory Blaser.
The incident occurred in the top of the sixth inning on the first pitch of Arenado’s at-bat.

The reigning Super Bowl champion Chiefs will reportedly commence the start of training camp without a key member of their defense due to an ongoing contract dispute with team brass.
All-Pro defensive tackle Chris Jones did not report to training camp on Saturday as the two-time Super Bowl champion remains in search of a new contract, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported. 
Per Schefter, Jones, who finished third in Defensive Player of the Year voting in 2022, and Kansas City are still currently “far apart” on an extension.
