The Cubs made some franchise history Friday night
The Chicago Cubs first played professional baseball in 1876, debuting as the Chicago White Stockings in the National League.
That covers nearly 22,000 games and four different team names. After playing as the White Stockings for a few years, they became the Chicago Colts, and then the Chicago Orphans, before becoming the Cubs in 1903.
That is a long time. But they did something on Friday night they have never done before.
They beat the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium.

Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama had nearly 18,000 eyes on him inside of a sold out Thomas & Mack Center on the campus of UNLV on Friday night.
Wembanyama’s Spurs edged Brandon Miller and the Hornets 76–68 in the opening game of Las Vegas Summer League action, but the conversation after the game was dominated by the up-and-down performance of the Spurs rookie.
Wembanyama had a rough shooting night, finishing 2-for-13 from the field with nine points. He did have five blocks, eight rebounds and three assists though, as he found a way to impact the game despite his lack of scoring on Friday.

The latest star QB in the Manning family enrolled early at Texas after an incredible career at Isidore Newman in Louisiana. Arch Manning left high school as the top recruit in the 2024 class.
Longhorns fans want to see him play, but it’s highly-unlikely that happens in the near future. Right now, he’s buried at three on the depth chart with future NFL QB Quinn Ewers locked in as the starter and redshirt freshman Maalik Murphy sitting in the QB2 spot.

The Silver Arrows have some work to do ahead of qualifying at Silverstone
While Mercedes was hoping to start the British Grand Prix on solid footing, the team looks to be on the back foot ahead of qualifying.
Both Lewis Hamilton and George Russell struggled at times during Friday’s two practice sessions. Hamilton finished in P12 during FP1, while Russell was behind him in P14. Things did not improve later in the day, as Russell finished 12th, while Hamilton was behind him in 15th.

San Diego State’s hopes of joining a P5 conference continue to be very dim.
The Aztecs had been holding out hope the PAC-12 would extend an invite, and even notified the MWC of its intention to exit the conference. That notice has sparked a massive war between the MWC and SDSU. The conference is currently withholding $6.6 million claiming San Diego State left and must pay an exit fee.
One of the possible backup options for the Aztecs was that the Big 12 might welcome the program with open arms as the conference looks to expand.
The Big 12 reportedly doesn’t want SDSU.
