Georgia announced this week that it declined an invitation to the White House to celebrate the football team’s 2022 national championship. There were some who made the assumption that this was political, but head coach Kirby Smart put that notion to bed this week.
After receiving a formal invitation on May 3 to visit Washington D.C. in June, the Bulldogs declined the invitation due to scheduling. This took many by surprise, but if you look at previous visits from college football champions, it’s easy to see why Georgia said no thanks.

After the Nuggets eviscerated the Suns 125–100 in Game 6 on Thursday night to advance to the Western Conference finals, Denver coach Mike Malone explained the limited celebration by the team as the players left the floor.

Things were so bad the NFL is considering implementing flex scheduling for TNF.
The reality is that it’s not easy to give Amazon a great schedule. The best games are always going to go to NBC for Sunday Night Football and then Fox or CBS for the weekly 4:25 p.m. ET national game. Then the NFL has to take care of ESPN and Monday Night Football.
Men’s college basketball’s 60-day transfer portal window closed Thursday, concluding a chaotic stage in the sport’s offseason that saw more than 1,500 players hunt for a new school. Roster movement is far from complete: Players could still trickle into the portal over the next few days as paperwork clears, and graduate transfers can enter the portal at any time. But for the most part, the players left in the portal at this point are the primary names to watch for as teams fill out their rosters for the 2023–24 season.

The two-time Super Bowl champ was inducted into the Cotton Bowl Hall of Fame on Friday morning, and while reflecting on his final season as a Rebel, joked that he reached out to see if he was eligible for a COVID year so he could suit up for Ole Miss just one more time.

Before we head into full offseason mode, it is time to look ahead, for a moment, at Week 1 of the 2023 campaign.
Things may change between now and then, but right now, here are the 16 Week 1 games, ranked by watchability.
1. Detroit Lions at Kansas City Chiefs
It should be no surprise that this game is ranked high on this list. After all, this contest cracked our list of the best games of the entire 2023 NFL season.
The Knicks and Warriors both staved off elimination at home Wednesday night and now they must try to do so again, this time on the road. The Heat and Lakers both hold 3–2 series leads in their respective second-round series with one win standing between them and a trip to the conference finals.
Los Angeles is a narrow favorite at home against Golden State and Miami is also favored on its home floor against New York.

Kevin Durant had his first season with the Suns come to an end in humiliating fashion Thursday night, as they were blown at home by the Nuggets, 125-100, in Game 6 of their second-round series.
Durant won over a lot of fans after the game with his classy comments about Nuggets star (and two-time NBA MVP) Nikola Jokić, saying he’ll go down as one of the best centers to ever play the game.
Durant’s whole breakdown of Jokić and his game was pretty cool to hear, especially as the comments came just moments after such a deflating loss for the Suns star.
