The small Western New York city of Rochester has a big time feel to it this week amidst the 105th PGA Championship.
Rochester, New York is a minor league town, pure and simple.
It is the 77th-largest television market in the country, with the local professional teams—the Bills and the Sabres—residing down the New York Thruway in Buffalo.
So when a big event such as the PGA Championship comes to Rochester, a palpable buzz percolates.
“Everyone is off the charts excited,” said Ron Pluta, the general chairman of the 2023 PGA Championship.

Jimmy Butler denied the existence of “Playoff Jimmy” in the midst of upsetting the Bucks, but there’s no denying it at this point in Miami’s run.
Jaylen Brown said the Celtics came out “too cool” during a disastrous third quarter against the Heat in Game 1.
Jimmy Butler dominated another postseason game — not just with his performance, but with his belief in his team.
The allegations stuck.
New York Yankees pitcher Domingo Germán has been suspended by MLB for 10 games after getting ‘caught’ using excessive sticky substances on his hands during Tuesday’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays.
The game’s crew chief, James Hoye, checked Germán’s right hand before the bottom of the fourth and gathered that Germán had been using too sticky a substance. Hoye said that he consulted with three other umps that also deemed Germán’s hand excessively sticky.
NBA fans and pundits may have been surprised by the result of Game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals. Jimmy Butler, on the other hand, was anything but.
The Heat superstar dropped 35 points as he led Miami to an upset win over the Celtics on Wednesday night. During his postgame interview, a reporter asked Butler if he had thought it would be possible for the team to make a deep playoff run after having to navigate through the play-in tournament. Butler didn’t hesitate one bit.
“Damn right, I did. Damn right we did.
Daryl Morey on Wednesday addressed his decision to fire Doc Rivers, the Sixers’ coaching search, and more.
The Warriors could see some major changes to the front office this offseason, including the potential departure of GM Bob Myers.
According to Shams Charania of the Athletic, Golden State and its general manager have not had substantial contract negotiations in recent months, leading both sides to be “bracing for the likelihood” that Myers leaves the organization in the offseason.
Myers’s contract with the Warriors is due to expire on June 30. According to Charania, the two sides last exchanged offers “several months ago,” but nothing was agreed upon.
Before the dust even settled on Game 1 of the Celtics–Heat Eastern Conference finals clash, Shaquille O’Neal was looking ahead to the Lakers’ next game.
Los Angeles will face the Nuggets in Game 2 of the Western Conference finals on Thursday night, and Shaq came prepared with a bold prediction for the game.
O’Neal thinks the Lakers will come prepared after falling just short of a comeback in the series opener on Tuesday, and he guaranteed a win for his former team in Game 2.
“We coming. We coming. We ain’t laying down,” said O’Neal.
Jimmy Butler turned in another playoff performance for the ages on Wednesday, helping will the Heat to a road victory over the Celtics in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals.
Butler hit a dagger three to put the game out of reach of Boston late in the fourth quarter, and commentator Kevin Harlan perfectly amplified the moment with an outstanding call of the shot.
Butler’s three hit off the back rim before getting an extremely friendly bounce that put it on target. The shot gave Miami a 10-point lead with just over a minute left, and Harlan was absolutely fired up over it.
