Padres third baseman Manny Machado posted a career year in 2022, slashing .298/.366/.531 for a San Diego team that advanced to the NL Championship Series for the first time since 1998.
However, Machado has been unable to return to form so far in ’23. On Wednesday, a frustrating season went from bad to worse, as manager Bob Melvin announced that Machado has sustained a small fracture in his left hand.
Machado exited the Padres’ 4-0 loss to the Royals on Monday after being hit on the left hand with a pitch with the bases loaded in the fourth inning.

Yankees starting pitcher Domingo German was ejected from Tuesday’s game against the Blue Jays after umpires assessed that he was using an illegal foreign substance. Due to the nature of his ejection, German was slapped with a 10-game suspension from MLB.
On Wednesday, the 30-year-old released a statement in which he revealed his next course of action following the 10-game suspension.
German said that he does not intend to appeal the suspension due to the fact that the decision would be made by MLB rather than a neutral arbitrator.
Various sports personalities have expressed their opinions about Grizzlies star Ja Morant’s recent suspension after he was shown displaying a gun in a video for the second time in recent months.
While ESPN’s JJ Redick says Morant shouldn’t face a lengthy suspension, TNT’s Charles Barkley shared a much more blunt perspective Wednesday night.
“We got some idiots, some fools, some jacka—- on television that really just p— me off, talking about Ja should make a stand by saying he didn’t break any laws, he didn’t do anything wrong.
Chatter between two teams on a baseball field is commonplace. But it’s not too often that a dig like the one Blue Jays manager John Schneider hurled toward the Yankees on Tuesday night is caught on camera.
The two clubs got into a shouting match about coaches standing in the correct spot on the field, prompting a brief stoppage in play as umpires sorted things out. Amidst the heated dialogue, Schneider shouted toward the Yankees dugout what appeared to be, “Shut up, fat boy.
ESPN’s J.J. Redick delivered a dumb take on the Ja Morant gun controversy.
Those who are sane-minded are reacting to Redick’s take, accordingly.
Ahead of Wednesday night’s Boston Celtics versus Miami Heat ECF matchup, Inside the NBA’s Charles Barkley roasted Redick and the rest of Ja Morant’s defenders as the Grizzlies star faces criticism for brandishing a gun on Instagram Live — just two months after he committed the same offense from inside a Denver nightclub.
Caleb Love decommitted from Michigan on Wednesday after he allegedly had an admissions issue related to credits transferring into the university.
One of the most famous moments in baseball history came when Randy Johnson nailed a bird with a pitch. Because “The Big Unit” threw the ball so hard, the bird exploded. Like the former Diamondbacks pitcher, current D’Backs hurler Zac Gallen hit with a throw.
Though, Gallen’s bird-seeking missile was not nearly as dramatic. For one, Gallen was warming up in the outfield, not pitching from the mound. Secondly, he apparently threw a curveball.
So, he hit the bird, but it didn’t not explode like when Johnson hit a bird. However, he did end the life of the bird, unfortunately.
It’s hard to feel like this isn’t a negative for a league that is finally getting the recognition it has long deserved, not just for its advocacy efforts but its exceptional product.
Yankees pitcher Domingo German has been suspended 10 games and fined by Major League Baseball for violating the rules regarding foreign substances.
The Bucks conducted an interview for their head-coaching job with University of Houston coach Kelvin Sampson, sources told ESPN.
