Entering Thursday night’s NFL draft, conventional wisdom was that all four of the top quarterback prospects—Alabama’s Bryce Young, Ohio State’s C.J. Stroud, Florida’s Anthony Richardson and Kentucky’s Will Levis—would be selected relatively early. That was true for three of the four, with Young, Stroud and Richardson going as three of the top four picks to the Panthers, Texans and Colts, respectively.
Unfortunately for Levis, as it turned out there were only three teams that were clearly in the quarterback market at the top of the draft.

The NFL draft is always unpredictable
As expected, the Panthers took Bryce Young with the first pick of last night’s NFL draft. After that, things got a little wacky.
One of the surprises of the first round of the NFL draft on Thursday night came when the Jets selected Iowa State outside linebacker Will McDonald IV.
Many did not expect the Cyclones product to go to a team with as much depth as the Jets have at linebacker, but when asked about the selection in his media session after the pick was made, Jets coach Robert Saleh explained that drafting McDonald had a lot to do with Aaron Rodgers.
“You know how we play [on defense], we come at you in waves,” Saleh said. “We dress 10 guys on gameday [at linebacker].
Searching the internet for NFL draft Round 1 analysis from across the globe, one theme emerges: no many like what Detroit Lions GM Brad Holmes did.
Will Levis was this year’s Brady Quinn, dropping like a rock in the NFL Draft’s opening round. And when you experience a slide like that, you get on a camera — a lot. The top takeaway from Thursday’s first round? Just how many damn girls did Will bring to Kansas City with him, and who the hell is Kelley Levis?
Now, before we dive in — yours truly got way out in front of this trend before it became hot. If you ready Thursday’s Nightcaps, you already knew Will’s true girlfriend was college sweetheart Gia Duddy.
New York Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner tried to lift up former Kentucky quarterback Will Levis, as the NFL prospect fell out of the first round on Thursday night, even as he was rumored to be a top-five pick.
The broadcast cameras panned to Levis throughout the night as optimism that he would be selected in the first round waned. Gardner came to the aid of Levis on Twitter.

Alabama decided to dip into the transfer portal this week and add a quarterback in hopes of finding the right guy to lead the Tide in 2023. Notre Dame transfer Tyler Buchner committed to Nick Saban on Thursday, giving them another option at the position.
The conversation coming out of Spring practice centered around Alabama coaches not feeling comfortable enough with the competition between Ty Simpson and Jalen Milroe. Neither quarterback separated themselves during the Spring, which led to OC Tommy Rees grabbing a quarterback who he has a prior relationship with.
PXG, a major golf club manufacturer that sponsors a number of professional players, isn’t looking to get into any business with LIV Golf or anyone who made the jump to the Saudi-backed circuit.
Pat Perez, Jason Kokrak, Hudson Swafford, and former Masters champion Patrick Reed were under contract with PXG when they joined LIV Golf. While the company honored their existing contracts, none of their deals were renewed.

We are officially one month into the MLB season, and it’s safe to say starting pitching has been very difficult to navigate so far. The league ERA is currently at 4.30 through this first month of the season as compared to 3.96 in 2022. If you had a stud that blew up this week (Julio Urias, Shohei Ohtani, Dylan Cease), don’t panic. Regression seems to be making the rounds.
In the meantime, it can’t hurt to have some extra arms on your bench. Those who lost Robbie Ray will also want to grab some of the young talent that’s widely available.
