A day after being ejected from his start against the Dodgers for pitching with a foreign substance, Mets ace Max Scherzer has been suspended 10 games by MLB, the league announced Thursday.
Scherzer was also issued a $10,000 fine, and is planning on appealing the decision, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post.
Scherzer was checked by umpires twice before being tossed from Wednesday’s game. During an interaction with first base umpire Phil Cuzzi, the right-hander pleaded his case, arguing that the substance on his glove and hand was merely sweat and rosin.

Throughout his big league career, Yankees slugger Giancarlo Stanton has been no stranger to stints on the injured list. And the 33-year-old has apparently had enough of it.
Stanton, currently on the IL with a strained left hamstring, expressed frustration with his inability to remain on the field to reporters on Thursday, calling his latest ailment “unacceptable.”
“It’s unacceptable [being injured] this often right now,” Stanton said, per ESPN. “The team relies on me. I can’t have this continue to happen and put us in a really tough spot we weren’t prepared for.

Memphis signee Mikey Williams pleaded not guilty to numerous felony charges on Thursday in an El Cajon, Calif., court.
Williams, a five-star recruit, appeared virtually in court and pleaded not guilty to five counts of assault with a deadly weapon in connection to a shooting outside of his San Diego home on March 27. He also pleaded not guilty to a count of firing inside an occupied vehicle for allegedly shooting inside a car carrying five passengers following a “verbal argument about guests in the house being asked to leave,” according to the San Diego County sheriff’s department.
