The first Associated Press men’s basketball poll of the regular season is typically a jumble of teams swapping positions as preseason expectations meet the reality of playing actual games.

The New England Patriots are waiving second-year cornerback Jack Jones.
The Los Angeles Rams are expecting quarterback Matthew Stafford to start Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks.
The Champions Classic, one of the tentpole events of the college basketball season, tips Tuesday night in Chicago. Once the sport’s opening-night headliner, changes to the schedule have bumped it to the season’s second week, but it remains one of the highlights of the early-season calendar and a chance to learn plenty about some of the sport’s biggest brands. Duke will take on Michigan State in a matchup of one-loss teams, while Kansas and Kentucky will face off in the nightcap.
Here’s something to watch for all four teams.
New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman doesn’t have an optimistic outlook for how much Giancarlo Stanton can play in 2024.
According to the New York Daily News, Cahsman believes that Stanton once again won’t be able to make it a full season without being derailed by injuries.
“We try to limit the time he’s down,” Cashman said. “But I’m not gonna tell you he’s gonna play every game next year because he’s not. He’s going to wind up getting hurt again more likely than not because it seems to be part of his game.
Antonio Pierce has won over many Raiders fans after his 2–0 start as the team’s interim head coach. But comments following Week 10’s 16–12 win over the Jets may add a few more fans to his corner as well.
When speaking with the media, Pierce addressed a broad range of topics, one of which was star wide receiver Davante Adams. Pierce was blunt about utilizing Adams and making sure to get him involved early, but the comments sure sounded like a bit of underhanded trolling at former coach Josh McDaniels.

Jets fans hoping for Robert Saleh to bench quarterback Zach Wilson following Week 10’s loss to the Raiders will likely be disappointed by what the coach said on Monday.
Despite the offense scoring only 12 points and no touchdowns Sunday night, Saleh will continue to stick with Wilson as the Jets’ starting QB. Based on what he said to reporters, the coach doesn’t believe quarterback play is the problem right now.
“I get it, there’s a yearning for more,” Saleh said. “But I feel like he played a good game yesterday. He’ll admit that he’d want that interception back.
One of the great things about being a “sports analyst” — particularly in the NFL — is that you get to be wrong a lot. And, for the most part, don’t have to own up to it. Stephen A. Smith, Dan Orlovsky, Shannon Sharpe, and the like all pontificate endlessly and say some dumb stuff.
So, too, do I. However, they rarely revisit their takes. They just move on to the next day and the next topic. The 24-hour news cycle applies equally to sports. That’s why so many change their minds from week-to-week. Or, they use lame excuses to cover up being wrong.
Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb played exceptionally well against the New York Giants, and then claimed he was the best wide out in the league.
After recording 11 catches for 154 yards and two total touchdowns against one of the worst teams in the league, Lamb crowned himself king of the wide receivers in the NFL.
“I’m the top WR in this game”
1. Tyreek Hill – 1,0762. AJ Brown – 1,0053. CeeDee Lamb – 975
Spooky season has arrived…

Wemby got taken to school by Duncan Robinson of all people.
San Antonio Spurs rookie sensation Victor Wembanyama got his first taste of the Heat Culture on Sunday, and let’s just say it was pretty uneven.
The Heat finished with the win 118-113, and Wembanyama finished with 18 points and 11 rebounds, but also turned the ball over seven times and shot 8-22 from the field. He also only had one block, and was put in a blender by Heat guard Duncan Robinson, who isn’t the most athletic player in the NBA, to put it kindly.
