Butler has always been a character, to put it mildly. He’s created his own coffee company, annoyed teammates by blasting terrible music that he unironically loves, flipped a kayak while detailing his ultimatum to the Bulls, and unintentionally created oh so many memes with his on-court mannerisms.

In a historic move, Missouri has hired Kerrick Jackson as its new head baseball coach, the school announced Saturday. Jackson becomes the first Black head coach in SEC baseball history.
“We set out to find a leader of high character with success rejuvenating a program, and we certainly found that in Kerrick Jackson,” Missouri athletic director Desireé Reed-Francois wrote in a statement. “He’s a tireless recruiter, fierce competitor and a coach with deep roots in the Midwest. Coach Jackson knows what success looks like in college baseball, specifically at Mizzou.

Jacob deGrom is heading for UCL surgery, marking an end to his 2023 season.
DeGrom joined the Texas Rangers in the offseason on a 5-year, $185 million deal to anchor their rotation.
The 34-year-old came to Arlington with a long history of dominance on the mound. And an equally long history of injuries that derailed past seasons.

As the Rangers seek to continue their hot start to the 2023 season, they will have to do so without starting pitcher Jacob deGrom.
An MRI on Tuesday revealed that the right-handed ace partially tore his ulnar collateral ligament. Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reported deGrom will undergo Tommy John surgery next week and is projected to be out until the middle of the 2024 season.
“This stinks,” deGrom said, per Grant. “It’s not ideal. But at least we know what it is now. I want to get it fixed and will set a goal to be back before the end of next year.

Indiana baseball lost the Lexington Regional final to Kentucky on Monday afternoon. As a result, the Hoosiers had their season come to an end, while the Wildcats advanced to a Super Regional next weekend.

In the aftermath of its best season in decades, Marquette has locked down its coach for the foreseeable future.
Golden Eagles coach Shaka Smart has agreed to a contract extension through the 2030 season, Marquette’s athletic department announced in a Tuesday afternoon release. The deal adds three seasons to the six-year contract Smart signed upon his hiring in March 2021.
“My family and I are incredibly thankful for the opportunity to be part of the Marquette community, where relationships, growth and victory truly matter,” Smart said in the university’s release.
