On the day before the start of the MLB regular season, White Sox general manager Rick Hahn provided reporters with a positive update on the status of relief pitcher Liam Hendriks, who’s currently undergoing treatment for non-Hodgkins lymphoma. Hendriks revealed his diagnosis back in January.
“In recent days, we’ve received positive news on Liam’s progress. He remains in treatment, still has some work ahead of him,” Hahn said, per WGN’s Josh Frydman.

More and more teams are employing the Tampa Bay Rays’ pitching approach of developing unhittable stuff and throwing it in the strike zone.
Another tragic passing in the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine is affecting the sports community.
Earlier this month, 22-year-old Ukrainian boxing champion Maksym Galinichev was killed fighting in the village of Chervonopopivka, in the Luhansk region of Ukraine.
Ukrainian Boxer Dies During Conflict With Russia
Maksym volunteered to join Ukraine’s forces last year when Russia began its invasion, opting out of the European Boxing Championship to serve. He joined the 25th Separate Airborne Sicheslav Brigade and returned to action this month after being injured during combat.
One of baseball’s former top prospects has a new home.
The Phillies have acquired center fielder Cristian Pache from the Athletics in exchange for pitcher Billy Sullivan, the team announced Wednesday afternoon. The move came a mere 24 hours before Philadelphia’s season opener against the Rangers on Thursday afternoon.
Pache, 24, was ranked as the No. 7 prospect in the game by Baseball America entering the 2021 season with the Braves.
He struggled mightily in Atlanta, however, slashing .119/.157/.209 in 24 total games over the 2020 and ’21 seasons.
Austin Peay volleyball showed up and showed out for the baseball team on Tuesday. It is a common occurrence for college athletic programs to support their fellow athletes, like Notre Dame football getting rowdy for the lacrosse team, but the Governors took things to the next level.

The former Kentucky star looks absolutely shredded.
Former Kentucky quarterback Will Levis is gearing up for the NFL draft, and that includes getting his body into peak physical condition. Levis posted a comparison of himself from back in December after a season with the Wildcats during which he was plagued by various injuries.
Looking to catch some Opening Day baseball on Thursday? OutKick is here for you! We’ve got a breakdown of Opening Day ticket prices for all 15 games.
The games are listed below by the cheapest possible tickets to the most expensive, according to StubHub. The price is per ticket, but I only looked at tickets where you could purchase at least two tickets together. Because who wants to go to a baseball game alone?
I also excluded “standing room only” tickets. These are all for tickets with dedicated seats.
We’re about to enter the final stretch of the NHL season. While some first-round matchups look set — maybe not set in stone, but perhaps set in hard clay — others still need to be worked out.
I’m ready for the mad dash to the finish as teams battle for wild card spots. After that, it’s time for the first round which is hockey’s version of the NCAA tournament. It even has brackets!
There’s some good stuff this week including a lightning-fast hat trick and a fast Lightning-Bruins line brawl.
This would be the next superteam.
Hypothesizing about the NBA’s seemingly never-ending cycle of player movement is one of the most thrilling aspects about the league. However, the latest hypothetical floated by longtime basketball writer Bill Simmons about Draymond Green, LeBron James and the Mavericks may just prove to be wildest theory in recent memory.
