The Cubs are signing infielder Nico Hoerner to a three-year, $35 million contract extension, according to a Monday evening report from Jeff Passan of ESPN.
Hoerner, 25, is entering his fifth season with Chicago; the extension will buy out two arbitration years as well as his first year of free agency. The Oakland native will reportedly make $15 million and $20 million in his last two arbitration years.

Dowdell, who enrolled early for the spring semester and should technically be a second semester senior at Picayune Memorial High School in Mississippi, was a consensus four-star recruit in the Class of 2023. D.J. Hernandez, the brother of former Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez, was arrested Thursday after allegedly throwing a brick at ESPN’s headquarters in Bristol, Conn., according to a Monday afternoon report from TMZ.
Aaron Hernandez, who died by suicide in April 2017, was convicted in ’15 of murdering 27-year-old Odin Lloyd in North Attleborough, Mass. on June 17, 2013. Hernandez’s trial and its aftermath was covered closely by ESPN and other media outlets.
