McIlroy spoke to the media after Sunday’s round at the Tour Championship, providing updates on his back and detailing the next few weeks.
ATLANTA — Aside from Viktor Hovland blistering the field at East Lake, Rory McIlroy’s back injury was the biggest storyline to emerge from the sweltering Georgia heat.
McIlroy struggled to gain momentum over the first three rounds at the Tour Championship, mainly because of his back, but he carded a 5-under 65 Sunday to finish in solo fourth.

The Rangers had a chance to pick up an important win on Sunday against the Twins. In a tie game in the 13th inning, Texas turned the ball over to reliever Jonathan Hernandez, a decision which did not pay dividends.
After striking out the first two batters of the inning, Hernandez was suddenly unable to find the strike zone. The right-hander proceeded to walk three consecutive batters, losing the game in extra innings via a walk-off walk.

Hovland let Schauffele get close, but not for long as the Norwegian held onto his lead to win his first Tour Championship.
ATLANTA — Viktor Hovland captured his first Tour Championship Sunday, once again putting on a clinic. He shot a final round 63 to finish at 27-under par for the win.
Hovland came into the day with a six-shot lead over Xander Schauffele, but that wouldn’t last all day. Schauffele still had some fire in him, going 7-under through 12 holes. He would finish the day with a 62, his best round at East Lake.

AEW founder and CEO Tony Khan opened the All In post-show presser by confirming that a real-life incident occurred backstage before the start of the event.
Multiple reports say there was a physical confrontation between wrestlers CM Punk and Jack Perry before Punk’s entrance to open the pay-per-view.
Khan told reports the company is investigating the incident and cannot comment further.

Pittsburgh Pirates prospect Paul Skenes has looked every bit of the pitcher that was advertised when he was drafted out of LSU with the No. 1 pick back in June.
The right-hander has been dominant and breezed through four scoreless innings during brief stops in the Florida Complex League and the Florida State League. Following his strong three innings of work in Single-A, he was promoted to Double-A.

Coaches decided to call off Saturday’s preseason matchup between the Miami Dolphins and Jacksonville Jaguars after Miami wideout Daewood Davis went down in the fourth quarter with a head and neck injury.
Players gathered around Davis before he was stretchered off the field.
The game was suspended with the Jags up, 31-18, and eight minutes left in the game.

With a return to the NFL delayed until 2024, Buccaneers starting center Ryan Jensen will continue to explore options in his recovery from multiple knee ligament tears in 2022. And, according to a new report, the offensive lineman has already experienced unique methods in lieu of surgery.
According to Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times, Jensen, who was placed on season-ending injured reserve Saturday, opted to forego reconstructive surgery to repair the three torn ligaments, choosing instead to receive a series of stem cell treatments.
