It’s been barely over a month since Reds rookie sensation Elly De La Cruz made his major-league debut. But that’s turned out to be enough time for the 6’5”, 200-pound force of nature to take baseball by storm—and make a bit of big-league history in the process.
The 21-year-old phenom has been breathtaking in his first crack in the majors, posting a gaudy .323/.366/.533 slash line with four homers, 28 runs scored and 16 stolen bases in 29 games.

“Five-second rule!” Ah, yes. The famous edict that if you drops food on the ground, you have five seconds to eat it before it becomes “gross.” WNBA player Sami Whitcomb of the Seattle Storm takes this rule seriously.
After hitting a 3-point shot, Whitcomb yelled out in celebration. In doing so, the gum she was chewing flew out of her mouth and onto the court.
She quickly reached down, picked it up and popped it right back into her mouth. On the Storm’s next possession, Whitcomb hit another 3.

When your gum is lucky, your gum is lucky pic.twitter.

Matt Rhule did not have a successful NFL tenure. He signed a seven-year contract with the Carolina Panthers but didn’t survive four before the team fired him. Rhule won just 11 of the 38 games that he coached. Despite the poor record, Nebraska hired him to return to the college game.
Rhule had a lot more success in college prior to his NFL jump. He led Temple to back-to-back 10-win seasons in 2015 and 2016. Then, Baylor hired him to rebuild the program following the Art Briles scandal.

Skip Bayless’s Undisputed sports debate show hasn’t aired a new episode since Shannon Sharpe left as co-host last month. Fox Sports says the show will return to its FS1 channel on Aug. 28, while Bayless says he is “in the lab this summer” just like LeBron James.
However, it doesn’t appear as if the hiatus was planned too far in advance. Michael McCarthy of Front Office Sports reports Fox Sports is struggling to find a replacement for Sharpe, and the hiatus is merely to give the network more time to fill the role.
