During eventful times, there is often a story that simply goes overlooked despite it deserving some attention. The rookie QB flashed veteran traits on Thursday night against the Eagles
Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson has seen limited action through the team’s first three preseason games, playing just 12 plays in the Browns’ game against the Washington Commanders a week ago. That has opened the door for Cleveland’s backup quarterbacks to take advantage of an opportunity for increased playing time, and one player seems to have capitalized on the chance.

The Commanders made it official on Friday, naming second-year quarterback Sam Howell as their starting quarterback for the 2023 season. Head coach Ron Rivera made the announcement at a press conference early Friday morning.
“He’s basically met the challenges we’ve talked about,” Rivera said, via Matthew Paras of the Washington Times. “We’ve been very pleased with him.”
Washington drafted Howell out of North Carolina in the fifth round of the 2022 draft and sat him for most of his rookie season.
