This will be Mike Brey’s final year as the head men’s basketball coach at Notre Dame. The 63-year-old announced that he will be stepping down from his role at the end of the 2022/23 season on Jan. 19.

It has been a great run for me and our program over the past two decades, but it is time for a new voice to lead this group into the future. I want to thank our student-athletes, assistant coaches and support staff who have played such a key role in the culture we have created.

Is it just me, or did anyone else notice how NFL commissioner Roger Goodell’s comments last week could have fit nicely in the movie, “Undercover Brother?”
Goodell sounded like one of those white news anchors in the 2002 classic comedy as they described black presidential candidate General Warren Boutwell. Billy Dee Williams played that role, which was patterned after General Colin Powell.

It’s a great movie, if you haven’t seen it. It expertly makes fun of white and black stereotypes in hilarious fashion.

Kevin Durant, the biggest name to switch teams last week, will not debut with the Suns until after the All-Star break. But many teams got to trot out their new-look lineups over the weekend following a busy trade deadline, including the Mavs, who featured Kyrie Irving and Luka Dončić for the first time on Saturday.

Picking a new number when joining a historic franchise like the Boston Celtics can be kind of tough. However, newly acquired center Mike Muscala’s new number carries some very personal significance.
The Celtics have been around a long time, and as such, have retired a lot of numbers. 23 of them to be exact ranging from Robert Parish’s No. 00 to Reggie Lewis’ No. 35.
For Muscala, he had previously worn No. 31 with the Hawks, 76ers, and Lakers, and No. 33 with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The baseball purists hate that Major League Baseball instituted a new rule that beginning in the 10th inning, teams place a runner a second base to begin the inning. The MLB extra innings automatic baserunner is not going away, ever.
The idea is to limit the amount of extra innings in regular season games. Playoff games do not include this rule.
It makes perfect sense. While it’s fun to see a game in the 18th inning from the comfort of your couch, the reality is that baseball games are long. Plus, those games run through bullpen arms and set teams back.
