Arguably the best image to emerge from any NFL training camp practice field happened at St. John Fisher University on Tuesday.
Bills safety Damar Hamlin, who took part in his first full-contact practice on Monday for the first time since suffering cardiac arrest against the Bengals in January, displayed his ball-hawking skills on Day 2.
The timing on backup quarterback Matt Barkley’s deep crossing route was off target to veteran wideout Andy Isabella and Hamlin—promptly reading it—stepped in and intercepted the pass.
Well, that was quick: Justin Verlander’s time with the Mets is over.
The veteran has been traded to the Astros, for whom he pitched from 2017 to ’22, on a deadline day deal. Amid a disappointing season, Mets brass began dismantling the most expensive roster in baseball history last week, selling off Verlander’s fellow pitchers Max Scherzer and David Robertson, along with outfielder Mark Canha. They’ve now wrapped up by dealing their biggest trade chip in Verlander. And they did their best to make it worth their while.
The Astros have a deal in place to acquire Justin Verlander from the New York Mets, sources told ESPN’s Jeff Passan.

Jon Rahm has been a busy man.
Following his strong performance at The Open Championship, Rahm appeared on Golf Sin Etiquetas, a Spanish golf podcast, to discuss a variety of topics.
First, Rahm squashed any rumor floating around that he may join LIV Golf in the near future.
The start of the NFL season is still more than a month away, but the start of training camp means highlights are starting to pour in. And in Pittsburgh, second-year Steelers wide receiver George Pickens made a catch for the ages during practice on Tuesday that had fans in awe.
Pickens, who tallied more than 800 receiving yards in rookie season with the Steelers, went up against rookie Joey Porter Jr. in practice reps Tuesday. The result: One of the best plays you’ll ever see. Despite Porter Jr.
Everything old is new again for the Astros.
Less than eight months after pitcher Justin Verlander left Houston for the Mets in free agency, New York is reportedly dealing the future Hall of Famer back to Space City. The move gives the Astros—just a half-game back of the Rangers in the AL West standings—another ace as they pursue a second straight World Series title.
More importantly, though, it gave Twitter the opportunity to make its favorite joke whenever an athlete lands with a team for which they’ve already played.
Pitcher Justin Verlander made huge MLB news on Tuesday when it was announced the Mets ace would be traded back to the Astros after only half a season in New York, per ESPN’s Jeff Passan.
While the news of Verlander being traded didn’t come as a huge shock to MLB fans since the pitcher said he was thinking about his future with the team after the Mets traded away Max Scherzer on Saturday, fans didn’t necessarily expect Verlander to head back to Houston that quickly.
Verlander spent four and a half seasons with the Astros, through 2022.
Playing on the road at Kansas and Iowa State will be just as hard as playing on the road at Alabama, says former Crimson Tide assistant Jeff Banks.
Banks, who is now on Steve Sarkisian’s Texas staff as special teams coordinator after spending 2018 to ’20 coaching under Alabama’s Nick Saban, was asked about the road game this season against their future SEC foe.
“We’re just going to play another road game,” Banks said, per Anwar Richardson of Orangebloods.com. “Just as hard in Kansas and Iowa State as it is going to be in Tuscaloosa. It’s just bigger and more people.
