Former NFL and California record-setting wide receiver Sean Dawkins has died at the age of 52.
After a standout collegiate career at Cal, Dawkins was selected by the Colts with the No. 16 pick in the first round of the 1993 NFL draft.
His death, which was announced by Colts owner Jim Irsay on social media late Thursday evening, was a shock to the NFL world.
“Rest in peace, Sean Dawkins,” Irsay posted on Thursday night. “I am shocked and saddened. My prayers and condolences to Sean’s family.”

1. Netflix got a viral moment earlier this week when a scene from Untold: Johnny Football revealed that Johnny Manziel watched no film at all while with the Browns.
That was pretty much the only thing you learned in the show, and I’m not sure how many NFL fans actually thought Manziel studied film based on how he played.
The documentary had a lot to work with. Manziel revealed he had planned to party and spend as much of his money as possible before killing himself. He claimed the gun he used to take his life malfunctioned.

ESPN’s Dianna Russini, who has emerged as one of the network’s top NFL reporters, is leaving the worldwide leader for The Athletic, according to a report from Andrew Marchand of the New York Post.
Per Marchand, Russini will become The Athletic‘s top NFL insider, where she will write, appear on video platforms and work with podcasts covering the league at large.
Russini and ESPN were in active contract negotiations, as the network very much would have liked to have kept her onboard, Marchand reports.

Ewing lapped the rest of the AIG Women’s Open field on Friday morning as she fired off a 66 to take a hefty lead.
The American golfer, Ally Ewing, is chasing her first LPGA major championship. Ewing has made the first two days of the AIG Women’s Open at Walton Heath look easy.
She fired off a 66 on Friday to best her Thursday 68 to sit at 10-under and hold a five-shot lead over Andrea Lee and Minami Katsu entering the weekend.
As many others struggled on Walton Heath, Ewing thrived.
