Washington, a Tucson, Ariz.-native, began his track and field collegiate career in his hometown. He attended the University of Arizona as a freshman in 2017/18 before doing the unthinkable.

Iga Świątek earned her fourth Grand Slam title on Saturday, holding off Karolína Muchová 6–2, 5–7, 6–4 in the French Open final. Her third title in Roland Garros, it was also the first time she won a major title that went to three sets, as she won the previous three in straight sets.
As it seemed like Świątek was going to cruise to a win, Muchová fought back winning six of the final 10 games in the second set and taking a 2–0 lead to start the third, However, Świątek dug deep to hold off Muchová, winning the final game on a break point.

Johns Hopkins fell one run short of the Division-III college baseball national championship on Thursday afternoon but not without a remarkable performance from Gabe Romano to give the Blue Jays a chance. The fifth-year pitcher had the performance of a lifetime and followed it up by eviscerating Keith Law on Twitter.
Romano, a graduate transfer, spent his first four years at Quinnipiac before his lone season in Baltimore. He quickly became Johns Hopkins’ ace and went 11-1 in 12 starts with a 1.56 ERA and 79 strikeouts to just 17 walks over 98 innings.

On Saturday in Istanbul, Manchester City’s pursuit of a historic treble clashes with Inter Milan’s hopes at one of the biggest upsets in the history of Champions League finals.
Fresh off its fifth Premier League title in six years and last weekend’s FA Cup victory over rival Manchester United, Man City is on the verge of only the second treble in English soccer history after United’s 1999 triumph. 
After years of investment and domestic success, City arrived in its first Champions League final in 2021 but lost to Chelsea in a lethargic 1–0 effort.

Swiatek holds off Karolina Muchova for her third title in Paris
Iga Swiatek now has her third French Open title.
Swiatek came out on top against Karolina Muchova in thrilling three-set match, 6-2, 5-7, 6-4, to emerge victorious in Paris on Saturday.
After a convincing 6-2 win for Swiatek in the first set, it looked as if she was going to cruise to the title, taking the first three games of the second set to lead 3-0 midway through.
But Muchova had something in store for the top-seeded Swiatek starting with the fourth game of that second set.

One more win puts Denver in the history books.
Sometimes, the way a playoff series looks on paper can be misleading. A prime example is the 2012 NBA Finals when the Miami Heat defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder in five games. But that series’ 4-1 split doesn’t tell the whole story. Despite falling in five — a relatively short series, all things considered — the lone game that one might be able to call uncompetitive was Game 5, which the Heat won 121-105 to close it out.

One of the most consistent ways to make Nikola Jokić’s MVP case the last three seasons was to point out how quickly the Nuggets fell apart whenever he sat on the bench.
Take the 2022-23 regular season, for example. Denver was 24.8 points per 100 possessions with Jokić on the court compared to on the sideline—the second straight season the team led the league in this ignominious category, per Cleaning the Glass. With Jokić on, the Nuggets had a 13.2 net rating. With Jokić off, that number slipped all the way to minus–11.6.

Conventional wisdom in sports says that when a team acquires a marquee player via free agency or a trade, it inevitably adjusts its style of play for the sake of accommodation.
However, this might not be the case in sports media—especially if ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith has his druthers.
Smith has been open to bringing Pro Football Hall of Fame tight end Shannon Sharpe to ESPN in the wake of his impending reported departure from Fox, but stressed that his hypothetical addition to the network wouldn’t fundamentally change the flow of First Take.

Nikola Jokić did it again on Friday night, joining another elite crew of basketball players for his performance as the Nuggets took a 3–1 lead over the Heat. This time, he became the fourth player ever to record 23 points, 12 rebounds, four assists, three steals and three blocks together in an NBA Finals game, joining LeBron James, Kevin Durant and Tim Duncan.
