In normal circumstances, the ball from a player’s first major league hit goes into the dugout to be returned to the player to commemorate the big moment in his career.
That didn’t happen for Winn on Friday night. Instead, after play was stopped, Mets first baseman Pete Alonso launched the ball into the stands in a bizarre move.

How will the historic hurricane affects sports games in California?
An unprecedented hurricane is reported to touch down in California. Hurricane Hilary is set to make landfall beginning Saturday and lasting into next week, and sites such as CNN say that this is the first time the tropical storm warning has been activated in the region. The National Hurricane Center says that parts of Nevada and Southern California could see up to 10 inches of rain, and strong winds will come in advance of the hurricane making landfall.

The NBA is investigating the situation involving the 76ers and James Harden after Harden accused Daryl Morey of being a “liar” in a tirade earlier this week, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and Ramona Shelburne report.
While speaking to a group of kids in Beijing, Harden put Morey on blast after the executive did not trade him despite the point guard requesting a trade from Philadelphia.
“Daryl Morey is a liar, and I will never be part of an organization that he’s a part of,” Harden said. “Let me say that again.

Patriots quarterback Mac Jones got a stern talking to from coach Bill Belichick during a joint practice with the Packers earlier this week, and Jones went into detail on Friday about what the encounter entailed.
Belichick lit into Jones during a two-minute drill in practice, and Jones said it was because the Patriots settled for a field goal.
“So we scored on the two-minute drive with a field goal, and then we just wanted to try a situation again,” Jones said, per CLNS media. “We just kind of redid the situation, I guess. That was fun, I guess, but it was my fault.

The estate of former NFL quarterback Dwayne Haskins has reached a settlement with the driver, owner, and broker of the dump truck that killed him last year.
On Friday, a lawyer representing Haskins wife Kalabrya announced the agreement with the three parties, who were a part of the 14 different entities that she believes bears responsibility for Dwayne’s death. Litigation continues for the other parties, according to the family’s lawyer Rick Ellsey.
